The Megger DCM310-EN digital clamp meter is an average-sensing meter for measuring current in electrical testing applications. It has a clamp with two jaws that can close around an electrical conductor up to 1.06" (27 mm) in diameter to measure current without touching or interrupting the circuit. The maximum or minimum reading mode displays the highest or lowest reading in a session to track a sudden increase or decrease in readings, and the hold function keeps a reading on the display, even after the meter is disconnected. The unit automatically turns off after 30 minutes of non-use to conserve battery life, and a low-battery indicator signals when the meter's batteries need to be replaced. A finger guard on the body of the meter helps protect fingers from shock. The meter can survive falls of up to 1.2 meters to a hardwood or concrete floor.
This average-sensing, or average-responding, meter provides accurate readings when measuring linear loads, such as standard induction motors and incandescent lights, where the current or voltage has a sinusoidal waveform. It has a 2,000-count resolution, meaning that it can display up to 1,999 units (3-1/2 digits) before the operating range needs to be changed. The meter meets International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) safety standard 61010 and is certified for category III installations up to 600V, which covers items used with enclosed building circuit installations (such as service panel parts, branch circuits, and fixed installations that are connected directly to a building's AC power supply). The unit comes with a pouch for transporting and storing the meter.
The DCM310 and DCM320 are ideal clamp meters for use during the installation, maintenance and checking of electrical systems and equipment.
Both meters will measure AC current (50 - 60 Hz) up to 400 A, with a Data-hold feature to freeze the displayed value for use in confined situations where the display may be difficult to read. The DCM310 also has a max-hold feature to automatically store and display the maximum value measured over a period of time.
The DCM320 has the benefit of measurement ranges for AC and DC voltages up to 600 V, and resistance up to 20 MΩ, via the terminals and supplied test leads. It also has a continuity buzzer that operates up to 20 Ω.
Both meters are safety rated to IEC 61010 CAT III 600 V, so offering high levels of protection to the operator. Carrying cases are included, and even without the case, the instruments are rated to withstand a 1.2 m drop onto a hard surface without damage.
The compact clamp jaw enables cables to be measured as large as 27 mm diameter, so covering the majority of applications within the electrical system installation industry.
Ideal for use by anyone working on basic electrical systems or equipment, these instruments are also suitable for the majority of applications encountered by the electrical contractor.
