I've been using this Weller WE1010NA 70W iron in the repair of vintage audio and test equipment for about 6-7 months now, and I have to say it's an appreciable step up from the WE51D 50W, which I still use after 15-ish years of use (abuse?). It heats up faster, holds temperature better, and will return to a preset temp upon powering up that facilitates consistent work/results. One feature I like is the auto standby that lowers temperature after a few minutes of inactivity, saving tips and running cost. Auto standby is easily adjusted to suit working preferences. I also like the heat resistant tip fastening collar which puts a bit more distance between my finger tips and the heating element, as well as enables tip replacement while the element is still hot. There is no back light on the digital display. Reading the display shouldn't be a problem when working in adequately lit spaces. There is no power on indicator, so you can't just look across the room and see that you've left it powered on. There's a nice effective and inexpensive hack/fix for this on YouTube. Build quality is quite good. This Weller unit would fit right in on just about any repair bench that doesn't require a specialized setup. Overall, I'm very pleased with the Weller WE1010NA. It's a high quality, fairly priced tool. Good job, Weller. Oh, and good job to TE, as well. Always great service, competitive pricing, good availability, secure packaging and fast shipping.

I just started into soldering and have used some of the cheaper solder irons that worked ok. This was head and shoulders better. I looked up other reviews and videos before picking this one up and I'm sure glad I did. Heats up quick, it's intuitive and does the job. It is also not made in China (which was a criteria I had when looking for a soldering station). One improvement would be a better manual but online videos and tutorials fill that gap too.

I have been around Weller products all my life and I waited far too long to buy a Weller soldering station. This unit is everything and more. With the various easy to change tips, projects are easy to do. When you want the station to be 439 degrees, it does it in a matter of seconds. If you want to bump it up to say 575 degrees, it does it in seconds. The point is that this unit does what you want and you can see in the easy to read to display that the temp has been met. As you solder, the temp drops a little but within seconds, it is right back to the requested temp. I had bought a inexpensive soldering station and suffered through using it about three times. I returned it to the store and then bought this Weller soldering station of which I will have for years just like my father that has had his station for years as well. You cannot go wrong with this soldering station as well as the prices and customer service of TEquipment. Thanks you and thumbs up all the way.

The WE1010NA is a great soldering station. Heat is fast and steady and it does exactly what it does. However, I selected it because it was supposed to have an auto shut off, which it does not! I knew it has an auto setback feature, which sort of works but the auto setback temp. is not adjustable. Bottom line, this station is great as long as you don't accidentally leave it on. BTW, it does not have any sort of indicator light to help warn you that you're walking away without shutting it off.

I bought this Weller station because my 35 years old Weller dies. It does what is said it will do. My first use was to build an 8X8X8 LED light kit. Not easy building but with the WELLER WE1010NA it sure was better. Just set the temp and you get quick solders with little excess heat to the components. First the good: Quick heat up, light weight handle, very pliable cord, overall well made. One Fault: the auto wake up from sleep just does not work. No documentation in manual or web site. Eventually discovered that touching the iron to the wet sponge was supposed to do it. I use bronze wool to clean tip and this does not do it. In the end found that pressing the up button also works.

It is very poor quality and lasted less than three months before the heating element worked loose next to the plastic nut and then controller started buzzing.
Now I have to pay to ship it back to Weller "for review" before they will replace it.
It turns out they have "improved" it. I hope the new one lasts but Weller has lost my busines

Great soldering station for the price. Tips are easily replaceable and it's great to be able to dial in the temperature. Only thing that is good/bad is the standby feature. When using the station and it kicks in, it's a bit of a pain. when forgetting to turn off the unit however it's great. Only other thing I'd like to be able to add would be a fine tip assembly for SMD and related work. It's not available. There are fine tips however and I'll end up trying to work with those. I wouldn't purchase any brand other than weller, they have been the unit of choice for many years and this unit meets the expectation...

Great station, two things I really like are 1. The display reads out both the setpoint temp and the actual temp of the iron. 2. The grip on the iron is excellent. It's a thin rubbery grip which is maybe the best feeling grip of any iron I've ever used. The control feels almost like as if it were a pencil. Now the reason I gave it only 4 stars is because the ET tips are hard to find in singles. Sure you can easily find them in 5, 10, 18 packs but if you need to replace just one there's not many options. Tequipment expand your ET tip selection.

It’s hard to get excited about a soldering iron, at least thats what I thought. No more waiting all day for it to heat up. No more crappy tips. This is the Cadillac of soldering. So much easier to do fine soldering on circuit boards. Don’t throw your money away on a cheaper unit only to pitch that in the garbage like I did. Bad Quality Control and Cheap Design on the Handle

Very disappointed at this product since the metal part of the soldering iron came out of the plastic holder way too easy. At 370 C degree to solder some parts who connect to GND plate, a gentle push of the tip can easily cause the joint between the plastic holder and the metal heater break apart. Although I've been professionally involved with solder for many years as an Electrical Engineer, I had one of my finger tip burnt when the heater part came out. I wish I can upload picture here to show how bad it is. Although I am always a Weller fan and consistently using Weller at work as well, I am very disappointing with this product.

I want to like it, but it's stuck in shipping hell. They won't deliver it without signature, and I'm not available when they stop by. Three attempts and it goes back to start all over again. I'm tempted to just hit "return to sender" on the UPS site. TE supposedly could lift the requirement, or have it delivered to a depot but will not. I don't care if it's stolen off the porch anymore. It's been a week and now it's a holiday.

Good but not great! Hakko FX888D a better choice!

This is a totally unbiased review. I have both soldering stations. Hakko FX888D's user interface is not good at all but once you set the presets it is a compromise. Hakko FX888D is a very solid machine and maintains tip temperature well. Weller WE1010NA, on the other hand, drops the temperature like crazy when soldering something big. Not sure if the Weller has 70 watts of power (says it does but definitely does not feel like it). Also no backlight for the Weller which is a shame as you have to make an effort to read the display. Hakko FX888D is a clear winner here.

First of all, there is no backlight. User interface is better than Hakko 888D BUT Hakko 888D is a very solid and robust machine. Hakko 888D does not drop temperature like crazy when you are soldering something that requires more capacity. I wonder if it has really 70 watts of power? Hakko 888D is much better pick; just program the presets to overcome the ridiculous user interface that the Hakko 888D has.

This iron offers great value for the price. The controls are simple but fairly easy to operate, the wand has a nice long cord, and the iron heats up reasonably quickly (less than 30 seconds to get 700F) and has changeable tips. I'd recommend getting a Metcal tip-changing pad (MX-CP1) to make the process of changing tips easier. There are a good variety of tips available for the iron, and they're reasonably priced.

Worthy Product to replace EC200n series stations

Been a Weller user since the 70's. This is a great replacement for the EC2000 series. Time will tell for reliability, but it is faster heat up and recovery, wide range of good inexpensive tips and accurate temperature. If it lasts 25 years like my old EC2000 it will be the greatest.

I haven't had it long enough to comment on it's long term durability. But it seems well made and easy to use. The manual is goofy (each page is written in single line description in about 20 languages), I had to figured out the lock function but I think I know what it does (but never will need it), but most functions are intuitive.

It's a Weller. That pretty much sums it up. The unit is a solid station with very easy to use controls and interface. And boy does this unit ever heat up fast!!! No one likes to wait around for their soldering iron to get up to temp - you folks know what I mean I am sure. The temperature sensor is super sensitive so you can see how much heat you are sucking out of the iron while soldering. The pen fits nicely in hand and the cord is super supple and pliant. Make sure that you get a selection of tips to go with the unit when you order. You will definitely need them. Remember keep your tips clean! Been using some "cheap" soldering station for my hobby projects until I decided to get a better station. In a few words: Night and Day! This soldering station reaches the desired temperature in seconds and has no problem maintaining it. At the beginning I thought that the station was deffective or something since after a few minutes of soldering, it was suddenly shutting down. I then realized that by default it has a standby time of 2 minutes so after changing that to a longer time things were back to normal. I highly recommend this soldering station. This is my first "Soldering Station". I have always used a 35W solder iron for general electrical repairs around the house and on vehicles. This unit heats up very fast and the soldering wand feels comfortable along with the cord being flexible makes for a nice soldering experience. The reason I give it 4 stars is that to change the tip you unscrew the retaining tube and slide it off. My iron had burs on the inside tube that made unscrewing and sliding the outer tube off stiff and sounded like scrapping metal. I ended up filing the burs smooth and now the outer tube slides nicely on and off. Not a big deal, but I feel Weller is a top name soldering manufacture and am a little disappointed in needing to file burs on a new unit. I have read some reviews that complain about the lack of detailed instructions in the manual, but it's not too hard to figure out. In the end, I would recommend this unit.
