Cost is high, but it is clearly well built. A bit noisy on the high setting, but it works significantly better when on high. unless you stick close to the intake.

Brilliant!

The airflow is vigorous enough to suck fumes from a horizontal foot away and the fan is quiet enough that I don't feel the need to raise my voice. It's a great piece of kit!

I cringed at the cost, but I have no regrets!
5.0
While I wish the price was a bit cheaper, I am very satisfied with the performance of the unit. On the lowest setting it has all the power I need, and the sound level is reasonable. Very happy to no longer be breathing (or smelling) any flux fumes!
I would definitely recommend the lock line hose kit to pair with it: https://www.tequipment.net/Hakko999-205-02B.html

Alternative ventilation for jewelry soldering
5.0
I bought this unit along with the duct kit for about $150 savings over the cost from my usual jewelry supply mail order company. I'm currently working in a space where window ventilation isn't an option, and I was making myself pretty ill with soldering fumes even with fluoride-free flux, and just the smell of acetylene burning and what little escapes the torch before it's lit. According to the manufacturer, it's not designed to filter combustible gases, and it's impossible for me to say what's actually being absorbed and filtered, but I can tell by the air quality and how I feel that it's a big improvement over what I was doing before, which was nothing, or cracking a window. I use the rectangular duct kit and position the little collector directly behind and a little above my work area, propped on a couple firebricks. I noticed it needs to be maybe 8 to 10 inches away to work well, so be careful with your flame given the plastic. I find I have to have it set to at least medium, if not high, and it's not exactly whisper quiet at those settings. The unit is built kind of like a heavy plastic file box, there are no tight seals around the closures, so some of the air comes back out various cracks, and I suspect it's not a perfect system, but it's working quite well for my purposes, and I couldn't afford similar units that are double and triple the price. I'm just hoping the filters last a long time. Overall, very happy, and it was a long overdue purchase.

Great Product

Our company researched many other fume extractors, and found this to be the most reasonably priced and effective product for our needs - used at employee desks when soldering circuit boards. No complaints so far!

Sucks better than expected!
4.0
Hakko 430 works well! The unit is much quieter and moves more air than anticipated. Having the ability to switch between Low, Medium, and High airflow settings is a plus. On the Low setting, it is not offensive to be sitting next to the base unit. I would recommend putting it on the floor or under the bench and ducting up to your work surface.
It would be nice if the unit came with at least one duct. Having to purchase separately is inconvenient.

Great product and worth the price
5.0
I run a jewelry design business that does a lot of soldering. Our current studio space doesn't have windows that open. The Hakko smoke absorber was a great alternative to making permanent changes to our rental space. The product appears to be very effective, it was very easy to assemble and isn't too loud.

Fume Extractor Works
4.0
First, it looks great in my studio. Its not something I have to hide which is a plus. I turned it on and its much more quiet than I expected. Its not heavy so I can move it around if needed without hurting my back. I'm waiting on the duct and nozzle to put it through its paces but I'm pleased so far. Can't wait to get soldering.

Works Great!
5.0
I bought it when Hakko was offering the duct kit for free when buy the unit. I’m not sure if the unit is worth the price when it doesn’t include the duct kit. When you price the two together it seems like a very expensive vacuum cleaner.
The unit does do a good job though, so if you’re looking for something much quieter than a vacuum cleaner, this is the way to go. It’s small and fits on the floor nicely.

The Hakko FA430 is a great fume extractor, very quiet and with the dual option we are able to purchase this one unit for both Stations.
Pros: quiet, variable speeds, single or dual operation.
Cons: The filters are a bit pricy, and the duct kit isn't included.
