The 289 meter is complex meter that has features on it that I might get to use in due to the line of work that I'm in. When I'm able to see a function being used that I haven't seen used before I am glad that I got this meter. I just started in the electronics industry and decided to go with the 289 so it will be the last meter that I will need to purchase.

FLUKE 289/FVF

People complains at: 1.- Long start up, 3 sec? Well I have an oldie -maybe 30 years old or more- Fluke 73 Series II takes aprox. 4 sec and still works like a champ!!! hope this one last 1/3 of that time, at least, and for sure it will. 2.- Weak test leads...? I have some old leads that still looks good but the probes attached to those leads are "like melting" and breaking in pieces. Degradation of the polymer, plastic or whatever over time. Logically, naturally, intuitively, and by manufacturer recommendations, I won't use those for high volt/current tests. New leads, with a thin and fragile look, must meet the CAT standard as indicated. FLUKE, nor any other prestigious manufacturer will put anyone on risk, just change your leads/probes when not in good shape. FVF not used yet. Software bundled on CD/DVD are ok for old computers, most of new computers/laptops don't have DVD/CD units. So asked FLUKE where to download the FVF software and they e-mailed it to me next day. The FLUKE 289 is for me like a Swiss Army knife done in a multimeter, everything I need in just one package! By the moment, excellent. Time will tell.

Fluke 289/FVF Pro TE Excellent Logging Meter

TEquipment had the best deal on this meter anywhere bar none! It's an excellent meter for logging and capturing fast transients. Not a scope, but really helps being able to see trend data. Still learning some of it's nuances, but pleased so far. Only negative is I would like to be able to download and print data the way it appears in trend view exactly as shown on display.

With the exception of about a 3 second start up, every function of this meter responds super fast including a continuity test that can alarm on open or closed and responds to changes in the micro seconds. It is not an oscilloscope but it is probably the most accurate hand held DMM. I bought this to log temperature, AC voltage and resistance in regular intervals and it does that well, especially if you buy the fluke connect bluetooth device that plugs into the end, the usb bluetooth device to plug into your pc/laptop and flukeview forms. Accurate, works very well and most important it has the fluke build quality and support. Outstanding!

The meter has a lot of features. I haven't had a chance to use them all. I do like the smoothing feature when taking voltage measurements. It would be nice if you could set the amount of smoothing you wanted. The leads are weak and will fail quickly and they can not be repaired. I do not like how long it takes to turn on. The only complaints is the boot up time and the quality of the leads.

There’s no beating Fluke products or TEquipment for value and service! Fluke again and again prove they have robust designs to withstand a trades environment, plus have the technical edge over competitors. The Fluke 289 with its capabilities makes it much easier to identify an elusive fault but I also can prove it showing the results to my clients! The only minor grip is batteries! Fluke need to develop a lithium rechargeable version of this meter. As for TEquipment well in my opinion you are the best in the business! Competitors like Newark have absolutely nothing on you in terms of service and pricing! Keep up the good work. I’ll be back!

The Fluke Model 289 DMM with FlukeView forms (FVF) is an essential instrument for the electronics troubleshooting professional, high technology educator or serious hobbyist. This DMM has exceptional accuracy and precision, which is the primary reason for its high-end pricing. Further, it has data logging and plotting features that distinguish it from its competitors. It is well designed and manufactured for long life in a field environment, but will work well on a bench, too. My only minor criticism is it consumes AA-sized batteries much more quickly (up to 8x) than most other comparable quality professional instruments, as it is effectively a small computer, and so would benefit from having an external power supply option; not currently available in the present design.

Great meter, and the FVF kit is a big savings

I bought this as one of my first quality meters. I was tired of replacing the $65 to $75 meter each year. In 10yrs that's over $700 so with the 10yr minimum Fluke warranty and all it came with it was worth the price and no worries. The cheaper meters I was buying every year also didn't have the logging capabilities and not as accurate or durable like the 289. This meter has been great, logging works as expected. I have the software running on Windows 10 and no issues.

I added up the items in the kit like the TPAK, Case, and software/cable and buying the FVF Kit was a big savings. I was going to get the TPAK and cable anyway, and a case for protection. I wanted the cable not only for reports but also for software updates and to put my name and contact info on the meter if I ever lost it. I contacted Fluke and they confirmed that the FVF Kit comes with the full version of Fluke View Forms software, and not just the basic version so that's even more of a savings.
The TPAK magnet holder is stronger then I expected and very useful. Much stronger magnet then the generic version so I don't worry about the meter falling when I'm using the TPAK.
And with the promotions when I bought mine it came with a free borescope that retails for $200, I would put the price more about worth $100 but it was useful tracking a leak in my ceiling shortly after I received it so I'm glad I had it.

And when I bought mine the fluke promotion allowed me to choose a 32GB iPod Touch (6th gen) that I'm now using with the Flir One for the iPhone 5/5S. I think the items changed in the fluke promo? But fluke still has other free items to choose and they always seem to have at least one current running promotion.

So if your thinking about the Fluke 289 and buying a case and the TPAK, that alone is worth buying this kit for the price and it includes the cable and full version software that comes in this Fluke/289 FVF kit. The kit saves a lot of money instead of buying these items individually.

The Fluke 289 is well made and easy to use. You can learn to perform the majority of the functions within 20-30 minutes. The logging function is an advantage when recording the performance of a particular system. The i-info button for the on board help screens is very effective when needing info about a particular measurement function. It is worth purchasing the Fluke 289/FVF Kit for the extra components like the C280 soft case, the 80BK-A Thermocouple probe, and the FVF-SC2 software cable. It is worth spending the few extra bucks for this multimeter to get all the different functions it is capable of performing.

I bought this meter for high end electric work.
One day one of my helpers was telling me that on a switched outlet, (switch off) he had 34 volts. I told him it can not be , because there is no power on. He was using a Fluke t 5000, meter. I use the 289 and on low pass mode, it gave me no voltage.
The 12/3 wire, was the confusing side for my helper. Because the black wire was energized, the red wire was picking up some noise and his meter gave 33 volts. But Fluke 289 on low pass mode, was so exact.
This is s minor situation. But this meter is doing great readings.
I consider accessories too expensive. A amp reading clamp its half the meter price though.

I recommend the meter.
