Farad

Definition: Unit of capacitance.

FDM

Definition: A method for carrying multiple channels of information on one channel by dividing the available bandwidth among channels.

Forward Error Correction

Definition: A technique for detecting and correcting errors from imperfect transmission. Correction is done by adding a small numbed of extra bits to account for the error.

Fibre Channel

Definition: A reliable gigabit interconnectivity technology that allows concurrent communications among systems and peripherals. It provides multiple topologies that can scale to a total system bandwidth.

Field of View (FOV)

Definition: The extent of the obeservable area that is viewed at a given moment.

File Format

Definition: The way information is encoded for storage on a device.

Floating (Electricity)

Definition: The condition where a common mode voltage exists between earth ground and the instrument or circuit of interest.

FOC

Definition: Fields Oriented Control.

Frame Rate

Definition: The frequency at which an imaging device captures unique consecutive images. Also referred as frame frequency.

Frequency Synthesizer

Definition: An electronic circuit that uses an oscillator to generate a preprogrammed set of stable frequencies with minimal phase noise.

Focus

The center of activity where the view is set.

Focus Control

Control that adjusts CRT focus to obtain the mist precise, sharpest, most detailed oriented trace image.
