HVAC Vacuum Pumps

A vacuum pump is used to remove air and contaminants from an HVAC system after refrigerant recovery. This creates a vacuum state. The deeper and more complete the vacuum, the more contaminants trapped within the system, its components, and even the compressor oil are removed. A vacuum pump can also tell you that your system has a leak if normal vacuum pressures are not being achieved. A vacuum can help protect your system from contaminants and non-condensable gases which can damage HVAC system components, reduce system efficiency, and even cause failure. Be sure to recover any and all refrigerant before pulling a vacuum.

Key Features of Vacuum Pumps to Consider
  • Two-stage Design – Cleans the system more thoroughly than a single-stage pump; the second stage starts pumping at a lower pressure so you can pull a deeper vacuum
  • Oil Drain Valve –large oil drain valves positioned somewhere near the bottom of the oil reservoir will allow for faster, more complete draining.
  • Oil Fill Port – Look for an oil fill port with a large opening that makes adding oil easy. Also check that the pump has an easily readable sight glass so you always know your oil level.
  • Isolation valve – allows you to shut off your pump, drain, and refill oil without losing a great deal of vacuum
  • Exhaust fitting - lets you vent the exhaust outside; especially handy if you’re working indoors
