Perfect for Stained Glass Soldering
5.0
This soldering gun is amazing. My first one lasted 22 years and took a lot of punishment. This gun heats almost immediately to 700 degrees. When you are in the middle of a project, you do not want to wait and wait to use your iron for 2 seconds. I even bought a second GT7A for a backup and to share in my shop. A great......no, the perfect soldering gun for stained glass soldering.

Very light and heats up quickly
5.0
I bought this for use in our shop at work. For years for this application we used a D550 or D650. This time when the old style gun broke, I suggested we try the GT&A. Besides heating up more slowly, the D550 and D650 are so heavy that if they are dropped (and they get dropped) something is going to get damaged. The last 3 guns I replaced were because they were dropped and the weight of the gun bent and broke things. The GT7A is light and heats up extremely quickly. A little more finesse is required for soldering small wires, but once that adjustment has been made it is works great. The people in the shop using this like it much better than the old one. The only feature that would be nice to have is the "headlights" like the older, transformer style gun. Did I mention how light this new one is?

Light and powerful. Holding down trigger is tiring
4.0
Does what it's supposed to do, just as advertized. I use it for large electronic joints such as in vintage electronics restorations or for speaker crossovers, where it is ideal. Heats quickly and can hold its heat even with a large heat-sucking load. It is surprisingly small and light-weight for a 150-watt iron. My only small complaint is that my index finger gets tired holding in the red "on" trigger. If you have several joints to solder and especially if they involve having to twist your hand around to different angles, you don't want to have to release the trigger and then have to hold the trigger again and wait for the tip heat up back up. I wish it had a "trigger on" lock feature, but I guess that might have represented a safety hazard. So, I keep a thick rubber band around the handle that I can pull onto the trigger to keep it depressed when I have several joints to solder in one session. You can buy a soldering iron holder to rest it in safely while hot, too. My first unit had a 45 degree twist to the tip. However TE quickly sent a replacement that was fine. Overall I am very pleased with this unit.

Solder Gun For Delicate Work
5.0
This is a great tool. Just what I needed for the delicate work on circuit boards of Model Trains which I repair. It heats up fast & does the job right. I would recommend this solder gun to anyone who does solid state circuit board work. 5 STARS!
