Good for all around general soldering

It was/is the standard iron with a WD1 station when I bought it in 2009. One day it was giving intermittent temps then shutting down so I knew it was time to replace the heater/cord or just buy a whole new iron. Luckily, TE.net had the irons for $103. The heater itself is $60-70 and I really didn't have another iron to solder the connections.
Anyway, the WP80 is worth having around. I do a lot of through hole circuit board and point to point soldering. It's great for that.

Never going back to radio shack soldering irons!!

Great product. This was a replacement for some cheap soldering irons that I've struggled with over the years that had horrible results.
I'd compare this to driving a Cadillac after driving a Geo Metro for the last 20 years. There is truly no comparison.
The 80 watts make this pencil heat up FAST. Even with a super fine tip, I was able to melt solder fast without the heat dissipating like with my old under powered radio shack iron.
The live chat function on this website actually helped me decide to go with this and the salesperson helped me pick out the correct accessories for this soldering pencil, since weller makes so many variants, it's easy to get non-compatible products that won't work together if you don't do enough research.
I already had the base unit to supply power for this that I had purchased on ebay. As for the pencil, tequipment.net had the lowest prices that I could find after searching the ebay, amazon, and most of the internet for the best price.
