It generates an oscillating audio tone for use with tone probes to locate cables and tests data and telephone cables up to 320 feet (100 meters), ensuring proper pairing for various configurations, including EIA/TIA-568A/B, Token Ring, and Category 5. It supports both unshielded UTP and shielded STP cables, detecting issues like good connections, open connections, crossed wires, and split pairs. Additionally, it tests BNC-connected coaxial cables for continuity, accommodating types like RG58, RG59, and RG6. The device features a belt clip, lanyard holes, a low battery test, and an auto-off function to conserve battery life, and it comes with a standard 9V battery.
