Very clean, quiet, and stable power supply. We use it for creating and testing GaNs nanomaterial. The magnetic and gravitational fields we set up within a specially prepared solution must maintain 00.01 field strength accuracy. The power supply is within 1/10 variance easily corrected and well within our specs. The constant voltage and current feature work flawlessly. Impressive little unit.

I am really pleased with this device and bought two. The large 5A capacity works for all of my heavy duty sensor designs. With the extended resolution it is stable and precise. Most important it is programmable from the serial port (as opposed to USB) and I was able to write drivers for it in C in less than an hour. Very useful for long term testing.

This little PS is a true home run for the price. As for the fan noise being loud, I don't even notice it. It's not very loud. The accuracy is very good. I believe the spec ratings are at high power. Even though the high resolution on screen is not there without the extra high Res package, adding a Fluke to the circuit reveals that selecting by the keyboard instead of using the knob produces a very accurate high resolution output. I have only noticed this with low power output and haven't checked the high end. The output is clean, the interface is nice and has easy to use features. The colorful display not only looks nice but also makes it easier to get a quicker look at a particular reading. The only complaint I have is the small display. My vision is not the best anymore so having the PS to the back of my workbench don't help either. Overall it's a big winner for me. I'm not a professional, just a hobbyist saying that I've had other cheap units and did a lot of research before buying this one. Some other units in this price range had big and fancy displays but lacked in quality, accuracy and and/or features compared to the DP711. The cheap PS's were useless because of noisey power output, inaccuracy and poor quality. Yeah it's better than nothing but if you can afford to spend $300 for the DP711 you will not regret it. It makes a world of difference.

Do not buy. Will not output what you set it to. Rigol say this is normal to be 20mV of yet they sell a $60 HIRES code to get 1mV readings. Rigol say this is normal to have an error of 20mV. And there is no calibration for this machine meaning all the calibration papers they give you are fake. Wow never again with this company. So why do u sell a 60 HIRES code if the 1mV is a fake number. Now I am stuck paying the return cost. Never again rigol

Rigol Response: Rigol Response: The voltage readback specification on the DP700 power supplies is 0.05% + 20 mV. If that does not meet your accuracy needs we would suggest using a DMM to verify the reading or a different power supply model. The high resolution option increase the instrument's resolution, but not the absolute accuracy. This is useful for comparing relative measurements as the noise level is typically below 1 mV. Therefore, you can measure changes over time and changes from device to device with the additional resolution. It should be clearly undestood though that additional resolution does not imply increased absolute accuracy.

Wish the fan was a little more quiet - bone cold the fan runs, even though it seems thermally (electronically) controlled.

My only other software niggling is when entering numbers I should be able to press "mA" or "V" which are labelled under the arrow keys. Instead you have to arrow to the V or A field and then enter the number then enter. Seems this would be a much quicker method of entry.

I am happy that I can scroll through the setpoints with the knob and have the setting applied without pressing enter.

Have had no issues with accuracy, overshoot under load, or oscillations. Very pleased! Originally purchased the timer option and I think I'll get the accuracy option as well. (it's too bad they can't be bundled)

Great power supply, feels very well made. I love the direct number entry! The dial is nice as well. I like the nice bright green on/off button indicator when supplying power. The screen is really sharp and looks good. I may purchase the high-resolution option for mV adjustments. The only downside was that I had to build a stand for it to keep it at about a 30-degree angle while working with it on my desk.

I really like this power supply. I purchased the upgrade to high resolution and it gives me mv/ma resolution. I work with low power circuits and being able to measure down to 1 ma is really valuable. The power supply has one major downside-fan noise There are a number of people who have replaced the factory fan with a Noctua and all is good. I would give it 5 stars if the fan were quiet. Same complaint on the DP 832.

Great Single Linear Supply

I am only familiar with the Rigol brand by way of YouTube videos and this is my first piece of gear from them. The unit comes with the timer and triggering options enabled on a time-limited basis for try-out. I have no use for them, so I will let them expire without any use whatever. I think it is a little strange that the com port on the back is RS-232 instead of USB, so if I have a criticism, I guess that is a minor one. The mV/mA high resolution option does not come enabled for try-out, and that is the one option that I like to have, so I bought it for about $60. The bottom line is that this is a nice, solid, well-built piece of equipment that does its job well for a very reasonable price. Happy customer.
