OK boys and Girls, this is not a $1000 meter. If you are in the market for a lower end meter this unit is very acceptable. There are some things that really bother me like the continuity tone is so low I can barely hear it. It does not seem to be adjustable, after a bit I will crack the case and see what can be done.

The DP832 we just bought for our 2nd lab. My only complaint is that the display is pretty small, but at my age, all of them are small :-) The round keypad took some getting used to, but overall they have been a good purchase.

Pros of this power supply: - Clear and easy to read display - The three outputs are very convenient for my typical use of bipolar rails for opamps/etc and a 5v or 3.3v rail for microcontrollers. - The combination of rotary encoder and circular number pad makes editing parameters pretty easy. Cons: - Channel 2 and 3 share a common terminal, not a huge deal. - I would prefer a number pad with a square layout, but it doesn't take long to get used to. - The fan is a little noisy, but this is to be expected. Overall: I like it, other top contenders were a GW-Instek unit with potentiometers instead of encoders/number pad, and a Siglent unit. The Rigol was a little more expensive than either of these, but I'm happy with this choice.

Love this Meter - Rigol DM3058E

I was looking for an upgrade bench meter that had 5 1/2 digits. I have other Rigol instruments and have been very happy with them, Oscope, PSU, Sig Gen... This meter does not disappoint! I love the 4 wire resistance measurement. I threw it on my decade resistance box and was impressed with the accuracy. The only real drawback was the backlit screen. It is easy to invert the white background and black numbers, but it was not keeping the setting when shut down. I did finally figure it out, trying several combinations of settings/saving repeating. The other thing that I find annoying is that I have to push the power button on the front after I power up my bench. Not a big deal, just annoying. The overall feel, look and operation is alien to my other Rigol instruments, but I do really like it. It is my new "go-to" meter.

Just hoping I might win a Rigol DS1202Z-E - but anyway - the scope I purchased (DS1102E) will probably do everything I need - and will certainly and easily replace my Tech-465 which died 2 decades ago (although I may try to refurb it - - likely some capacitors in the power supply have Cra_ _ ed out). This thing is amazing - with a single button "Auto Run" control that selects the best display options for the signals currently detected. It's DC to 100MHz on both channels, 2 1x / 10x probes with capacitive adjustment, and a 1KHz square wave calibration tap. And - OBTW - - this lil scope has a 1 MegaPoint capture memory compared to similar priced competition. NOT sure I'd go with this scope again - built in 2008 compared to Hantek DSO4102C in 2015 - - but it will suffice for my applications.

This is a nice unit, but pricey. Intuitive layout, but still a bit clunky with the circular input. They should have just given it a normal keypad layout. I doubt it was designed by EEs - we don't want eye candy, just easy-to-use and navigate. My unit has the slightest bit of drift prior to warming up, but stabilizes nicely afterward. Plenty accurate and stabile for the home/amateur setup. Very nice that they incorporated presets for regularly used settings. Build quality seems very solid.

This power supply is a must to have in a lab. There is 3 output, all 3 programmable. You will need licenses for the LAN connectivity and for the high resolution. By default, the display is "locked" to 1 or 2 resolution digit, but with a 100$, you can have the full resolution which is 3 ! The LAN connectivity make it very easy to program over ethernet and connect perfectly with LabVIEW. We have several of those units here and no problem !

I was happy enough with this that I eventually bought two of them in total. It's just a solid lab power supply with three programmable outputs. Not a lot of excitement, which is what you'd want in a power supply. The user interface is decent although many complain about the encoder wheel to set values. It could definitely be more streamlined, but you get used to it. The only part of the UI that I found almost unusable was the timer functionality, where you can set it to step through different voltage and current limits. It may have improved in later firmware revisions, but it was very unclear where the sequence was supposed to stop, and using the prefab templates seemed to not work at all. However, most people will probably never use this functionality, or will automate it externally with LXI etc.

I got this power supply over a year ago and it is a solid performer on my workbench. It's used for hobby applications and I never had issues with it. I mainly use it from the front panel but tested some simple setups in LabVIEW in combination with the DM3068 DMM and a DS2302A scope...no issues. It took a little while to get used to it but now I really like the user interface. The huge complaint is the build in fighter jet turbine. I thought the DS2302A scope is loud, after I installed this power supply I learned the scope is whisper silent. I don't know how you can design bench equipment that is designed to sit in front of the user which is so noisy. Yes it's not a pricy power supply but the efforts to minimize the noise aren't too pricy either. My unit is out of warranty now and I will definitely look into alternative fans that reduce the nose without loosing air flow. Other than the noise complaint this is a very nice power supply for the price.

The DP832 is a great value. There's really nothing in its class at its price. Can't comment on the long term yet, as our model is new, but it feels solid. I was concerned about the loud fan comments, but I haven't found the DP832 unusually loud, particularly in a lab environment. I might consider a DIY fan replacement if I were in a quiet office. It would be nice if Rigol enabled all the features in the hardware, instead of selling license keys separately. That seems to be their trade-off for lowering the barrier to entry.

This is a very solid and nice PS. I was a bit surprised how heavy and large it actually is. There is one complain which is the loud fan. There are some mods out there to replace the fan with a quiet one but it's not as straight forward as you might think since you have to make sure to match the current of the original fan and of cause you will void the warranty. So, please Rigol spend $8 for a quiet fan - well the fan of my Rigol DS1052 is even louder ;-). Anyway, I highly recommend to watch the EEVblog reviews on the PS as it gives you a lot of great info.

Both tests well, but one is slow to show the measurement and the other I sometimes have to try multiple times before it will show a reading if the leads are small. This resolves the issue and now that it sits on my workbench, I don't have to dig out my handhelds anymore when working on projects unless not something I can put on my workbench. A Great Value in a Programmable Power Supply

I have used this programmable power supply now for several projects over about a month to characterize the V-I characteristics of a series of TVS diodes. This power supply has shown itself to have outputs that are surprisingly accurate, stable, and quiet. Setting up a series of precise test voltages with a precise current limit was a snap. The unusual circular numeric keypad looks odd, but in practice it's very easy to become accustomed to it and I don't think it's a bad thing at all. Setting up voltages and currents with it is quite easy with very little practice. As others have no doubt mentioned, this unit does have a fan, however at the low output power levels I used the noise level was minimal and not annoying to me at all.

The Rigol DP832 has been working great for me. It is very intuitive and easy to operate, and the quality of the DC output is superb. I really enjoy the ability to turn each channel on and off individually. The reason I removed 1 star is because: 1) The High Resolution Display/Control should be a standard feature, instead of an extra $110 for the unlock code. Everyone can benefit from the fine resolution control. I am OK with the other locked features being extra cost, since not everyone can use them. 2) I wish there was a way to internally configure the power supply to put channels 1 and 2 in series. They can be manually connected with a short jumper wire, but cheaper power supplies have this feature...and I am naturally lazy enough to not want to walk across the lab to get a jumper cable. Overall, a great power supply for a decent price.

The accuracy and responsiveness of the DMM is very good, as other have mentioned. I like the fact that I can control the characteristics of the display (brightness, contrast & invert). There are two issues regarding the probes, I feel should be addressed. The sheaths on the probes can be difficult to remove. At first I thought they weren't removable, which didn't make sense considering that they came with threaded alligator clips. I contacted Rigol in Beaverton OR and they informed me that the sheaths can be obstinate to remove initially and to use a set of needle nose pliers to remove them. That worked like a charm and now they come off with reasonable effort. The second issue, also deals with the probes. This may be an isolated issue, however I thought it was worth mentioning. The probes I received, although they are well made, do not provide consistent readings. I swapped them with a set of Probe Master probes and the issue went away. I also tried the Rigol probes on another multimeter and had the same issue. Maybe it's just my set.

I'm very happy with the supply. Having a good linear supply on my bench is important as it doesn't have all the high frequency noise a cheap switcher has. I looked at several reviews including the one on eevblog and have found it works well and meets my expectations. It took a bit to get used to the user interface however in now find it easy to use. I recently used it to charge the lipo batteries in a piece of gear, being able to current limit was important and it worked very well. I plan to buy the hires display option, the only reason I gave it 4 stars is it doesn't come with the option from Rigol.

It was very easy to learn how to use the important features such as 2nd key which helps me to monitor the ACV and frequency at the same time and also Dcv with Acv frequency component. The capacitor check is ok, not so accurate as I hoped. Math and Measurement button I still have to learn to use. Run and Hold is useful to monitor voltages that move high low. I only used the meter for a few days and I see that its good tool. Thanks Tequipment for fast delivery and great service.

What's Not to Like About This 'Scope?

First off this is my first digital 'scope, have been using a basic analog scope for decades for hobbyist and ham use. It was purchased on the basis of reviews by users on a number of on-line sites.

Amazed at the fact that these scopes now do all the calculating for you. Frequency counter for this scope is very accurate, even if you go above 100 MHz to a certain extent. Very small footprint (my analog was huge), light weight, easily transported. Fan noise was not an issue; as a matter of fact if this was not commented on in previous on-line posts I would not have noticed. Good quality from it's appearance - buttons, knobs, pots switches all close tolerance and tight with not a hint of flimsiness. Nice big top mounted handle.

The DVD that comes with the unit is excellent as a tutorial. The hard copy manual is brief but hey, who prints things anymore, you get lots more info on a disk and it saves on printing costs.

Am absolutely satisfied with my purchase.

This is easily my favorite power supply of all that I have purchased.

Features I like:

1. quality and accuracy of output (very low noise),

2. the ability to (optionally) do a full power cut-off on over-current,

3. the default start-up mode with outputs being off (while you make adjustments) and then you can switch them on when you have the output(s) set as desired, and the ability to turn off the outputs while you make adjustments. Aside from the obvious circuit-board safety factor this provides, this also makes it undeniably safe to leave your equipment attached between sessions.

4. One thing I really, really like is its user interface -- probably best in the industry. While it is a good idea to dig into the manual and practice every operation, once you have done so, you will probably never need to refer to the manual again. Reason: the interface (button sequences, etc.) is very intuitive, and gets my highest compliments in that they have also managed to make it VERY DIFFICULT to use incorrectly. In other words, it is very difficult to do anything that would damage your circuit boards by accident. It is VERY easy and quick to get what you want.

Also, when you want a specific output setting, there are typically 2 or 3 ways to get it, and each method is intuitive.

Features I MIGHT change (undecided):

1. The layout of the numeric buttons in a circle is different. However, I have not found this to be annoying or encumber my use of this power supply in any way. Two things that I actually find NICE about this are:

a. the fact that they surround the adjustment knob, which makes for proximity of controls that provide alternate ways to achieve a specific output setting, and

b. the fact that I am MUCH LESS LIKELY to hit a numeric button that is very far away (value-wise) from the button I intended. In other words, if you want '8', it is quite difficult to hit '5' by accident. I suspect this is an intentional user interface design to reduce errors (which in the world of powering [sometimes expensive, prototype] circuit boards, is much appreciated by me).

If I was going to stock up a team of technicians with power supplies, this is the one I would purchase.

Comparing the price to what you get for your money this is a no brainer. Display is sharp and this thing has so many features I don't know where to begin. Many of the features are located in a menu driven format. You push a button and scroll down to what you want to adjust. The instrument was received VERY WELL protected and was double boxed! My only beef is why Rigol chose to put the AC line cord on the side of the instrument. It should be on the rear. Other that that, the DS1102E will give me some capabilities that my old Tektronix was lacking PLUS easy portability with the carrying handle on the top. TE's shipping was lightning fast as well. All in all I'm happy.

Bought this specifically for the LAN control but it doesn't do LAN commands well, IMHO. Too fast and it hangs up the instrument. Does not appear to conform to the IEEE commands it supports, namely "*OPC?" for synchronization. One is supposed to be able to issue this command and wait until the instrument completes all previous commands, but the DP832 sees this and others (sometimes) as an invalid command,. Appears to need arbitrary time delays between commands, some times, so one is never sure if you've added enough delay. This leads to too slow scripting and erratic faults so never sure if a long scripted measurement will work or not.

Tequipment Response: The DP832 (with the interface option to enable LAN communication) is commonly used both for benchtop front panel operation and remote automation. Regardless of whether the program is using LXI, USB, or GPIB we recommend adding delays on the order of 100-200 milliseconds between commands. Because of the standard time in which a DC power supply responds and services these requests we find that to be sufficient a majority of the time. Certain commands such as creating or editing sweeps or saving and recalling setups can take longer and care should be taken. The *OPC command is supported and can be used, but should only be used for certain asynchronous operations. Sending repeated *OPC commands every 10 milliseconds to see when it is ready can overwhelm the buffer service just like sending other commands too quickly. Given the speed and capability at which the DP800 series set and measure voltages and currents one can fully utilize its capabilities with a delay set between commands.

This is a great meter for a hobbyist or electronics lab on a tight budget. It performed well within specifications against a voltage reference as well as against several 0.02% resistors. While it does not have ethernet capability, the USB connectivity works just fine and it allows Fluke 45 or even HP/Agilent 34401 command protocols to be used.

The package included fuses, a USB cable, and probes with screw-on alligator clips. The probes are soft flexible leads and extend a generous 42" reaching pretty much anywhere on my bench.

It came well packed (box in a box) and delivery by TEquipment was fairly quick.

It's only issue is a relatively high impedance between the common grounds of CH2 and CH3, so if current sinks from one channel to the other, voltage regulation is affected. Easily solvable though.

Replaced them with 200 MHz probes. This newer version had much improved probe response. Its frequency counter accuracy was better too. I would like to have access to the settings to tweak the frequency counter accuracy. To have a scope with this capability at such a price is wonderful.

Well, try to find PSU close to Rigol DP832 in abilities and comparable by price AND with same reliability... I bet you'll be unable to.

Numeric keyboard is surprisingly comfortable to type values, information displayed is clear and interface has almost no learning curve.

You can upgrade this PSU to same precision as almost twice expensive DP832A, add LAN and monitor/analyze and then think hard how to utilize all that stuff =)

Since overheating issues fixed with revised version (I think it's been 2 years since then) - it's time proven reliable and precise PSU capable to handle all needs for home or repair lab.

Rigol - still the best in mid-range price segment!

P.S. And you don't want 832A because it has different way of displaying information. Trust me. Colored buttons and messy UI don't worth extra $350.

Great multimeter. After debating going with a cheaper meter or a refurb fluke, i'm glad I went with this Rigol multimeter. Update times are good, really responsive multimeter, has everything you would hope for an entry bench multimeter.

I do wish the continuity test were a little louder or adjustable, it's quite hard to hear in a noisy environment. I also wish the DMM came with two sets of probes for 4 wire measurement, but it is understandable that it didn't.

Overall, if you're in the market for a bench multimeter, but don't want to spend too much grab this meter!

DP832 triple output power supply

This is a precision triple output power supply. It has 2 independent 0-30 volt outputs and one 0-5 volt output.. The middle 0-30 volt supply is not isolated from the 5 volt supply. This will probably never cause a problem in my case.
I like the corner bumpers which allow me to stand the power supply on end instead of setting it on a table if the situation merits it. This unit is upgradable to one extra digit if it is useful to you. The upgrade should be less than $100.00 US$. Too many features to mention. The only thing so far that Rigol could improve on this is to make the adjustment control knob stick out more so that you are not wheeling it around with your finger. Other than that the supply seems to be a very good buy for the price!

I've had this power supply for a couple of days, and I can say that I'm very happy with it. It does everything I could ask for in a unit at this price. It has a very friendly interface, allowing multiple ways to adjust voltage/current set point.

It's worthwhile to note that this unit has a color LCD screen but the interface is monochrome. It would have been nice if the three outputs were color-coded, but I guess that is a distinguishing feature of the DP832A, the higher-end model.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this power supply.

Good Value for a Programmable Bench Supply

I just received my DP832 a couple of days ago. It arrived double-boxed in two sturdy, close-fitting double-walled cardboard cartons, with ample fitted padding to survive the worst punishment it might receive in transit. I wish that more products were packaged so well for shipment.

I had no trouble bringing up remote control over USB from my Mac using python-usbtmc and python-ivi, both of which are available at Github. Note that license keys are required to enable remote control over Ethernet. After entering them (a somewhat laborious process), it was easy to bring up network remote control using python-ivi and python-vxi11.

I would have preferred a traditional rectangular arrangement of number keys over the odd circular arrangement, but that's really just a nitpick. Entering voltage and current settings is easy using either the encoder knob or the keys.

The "All on/off" button turns off power with a single push, but turning power on requires a confirmation on the menu keys under the display. That surprised me a bit based on experience with other programmable supplies which don't require the confirmation, but it's probably a bit safer. Turning individual outputs on or off just requires a single push of their dedicated on/off keys.

Overall, I think this power supply is a good value.

I have put the Rigol DP832 through a series of test/evaluations and find it good in all respects. It is easy to use, quite accurate and should suit almost everyone's needs.

The software is not top-level, but is useful; I had to export data to a csv file, which opens in Excel, to determine the energy (power x time) used by an LED array that I evaluated.

One minor nit is the additional cost for more accuracy and other features; but this seems to be the way of much current technology.

It's tough to beat a high end scope, but for the price, this scope does a lot of great things. I do mostly contract jobs with microcontrollers and digital circuitry ranging from 1MHz to 50MHz as well as communication protocols at various slower baud rates. For the protocols, I use a USB logic analyzer, but this scope has been very useful watching other signals (like power rails) simultaneously for noise issues.

If I could get a Tektronix for the same price, I would get it instead, but the functionality packed in this scope combined with the much lower price makes it a good choice for me.


Cons:
The update rate on the screen is a bit slow, giving a less than fluid waveform even at reasonable time scales. This also causes difficulty with the trigger level, but it is not horrible.


Pros:
Price.
Good math functions including FFT.
Good cursor and measurement functions.
user friendly menus.
Free software to interact with the scope and even show the current waveform on a PC via USB (CD included but also need to download a software package from Rigol's website that contains the necessary NI driver).
Probes are mechanically sound - good spring tension and such.
Digital filters available (low pass, high pass, and I think band pass at least) on each channel.
Overall a good scope for most users.

Have had this unit for about nine months and it has been working great. It is easy to use. Was a little worried about the circular numeric input being a little goofy but works fine. The power supply has nice logging features. For example, you can attach a USB thumb drive and have the power supply log voltage and current every second (you can choose the log rate). Feature works great, however, output is a little cryptic. Rigol does provide a documentation sheet to make sense of the ROF (data log file). I submitted a request to Rigol saying that it would be nice to have a Windows program to parse the data. Rigol says they are working on it. Rigol did supply an Excel spreadsheet to help deocode the data. A nice supply.

Really accurate (within 2 LSB of my references), responds fast, boots reasonably fast (maybe 10 seconds).

User interface on the front panel is really good - simple and intuitive to use w/o having to read the manual or go thru layers of menus. Feels like a quality unit.

Cons: Continuity buzzer is on the quiet side (but loud enough for me), and slow at the default 10 ohm threshold - it's much faster if you set it to 25 or 30 ohms. Not latching, but at 25 or 30 ohms it's fast enough that that's not a big issue.

Probes are simple, nothing special.

Very happy with the purchase - would buy another in a flash if I needed one.

A great price for a good power supply

This power supply is a great buy. What makes it really nice is it's upgradable via software. You can purchase the model that has everything unlocked for about double the price of this one, or you can pay to unlock only the features that you need on this model. For example, if you want to be able to hook this up to the network and control it via the local area network, just pay to get the unlock code to enable Ethernet. Another great thing about this power supply is the wealth of support from people on the forums like EEVBlog. This is great in case something goes wrong with this unit when it's no longer covered under warranty. You can simply log into the forums and ask advice on how to fix it. I think that's wonderful. There was one issue with my unit that was a little displeasing. It turns out some of these units shipped with the wrong banana plugs. On my unit, two of the input jacks are just to dang small. The company was more than willing to send me adapters and although I do appreciate the adapters, I would of rather of had replacement jacks sent so I could replace the bad ones myself. Rigol knows of this problem and they have fixed it but there's still a chance you might get one of the defective units. I am positive if I wanted to return my unit to get another one without the same problem, Rigol would of sent me another unit.

Have shopped around and used many power supplies and for the money this one is the best, has features that match or exceed more expensive units, and can be upgraded for a fair price should you need the extra capabilities this unit offers. The only con I can even think of with this unit is some of the banana connectors I have don't seem to fit or fit very easily. This could be the cheap ebay cables I purchased however.

I am quite pleased with the power supply and as I am just a hobbyist it was a big purchase for me. None the less as value per dollar I consider it rather inexpensive.

First the bad parts, the jacks are a little tight and all my leads don't fit in as well as they should. Once the warranty is off I will probably drill or sand them out. I find this quite annoying and feel it drags down the unit considerably when judging quality of build. The other thing I find quite annoying for me is the length of the unit. It is considerably longer than any other piece of equipment I have so it does not sit well on my bench. That being said I knew the length before I bought it and still went ahead. Two minor issues are the fan noise and it has a color screen, why not let a user use it as such.

Now the nice parts. I thought I would hate the keypad layout, turns out I love it. The unit is responsive and switches nicely as the power is brought up and down. It switches from output to output nicely and the display shows this clearly. Although I faulted the lack of nice color display patters the display is beautiful, it is crisp and easy to read even from across my bench.

To summarize, if I were to be able to choose this unit over again, I would. Hopefully my jumper leads will fit properly in a newer production model.

This bench power supply is incredible value at a $450 price point. It has all the features I was looking for plus options for upgrades. I also purchased the Hi-Res option for 1mv/ma resolution.

I agree with most people that the display is much better than on the DP832A. I don’t know what Rigol was thinking. It would have been nice to have a slightly larger display for my aging eyes, but it is definitely adequate.

I would have given it 5 stars if it were not for the issue of the output terminals. The banana plugs are inconsistent in sizes. I had to ream the holes out so they were all the same. Not that big a deal. For some it might be.

All in all, very happy with this unit.

This is my first power supply and I'm so certain now that I have picked the correct one! There are cheaper ones out there with so many less features. This thing is great. Although right now I don't use the two extra outputs, I'm sure sooner or later they'll come in handy. I love how you can set the amperage and the volts. If I want 3.0V and 1.5A, I got it, if I want 3.5v, 1.5A, I got it. It also appears to be well built. It has some weight to it, it's not flimsy. It's nice and solid. The only thing I'd like to see different is the monochrome display. You can change the colour but everything is that one colour. You can't have mixed colours like you do with the DP832A. Still, for the price, you can't go wrong!!! I love how some of the features are software unlockable. If you don't need them, you're not paying for them! If you do need them, you can purchase them for a few (around 100$ per feature).

This is a great power supply that provides great features, at a low cost. Build quality is superb- and coupled with the $100 add-on, it can deliver and measure in 1mv/ma increments. I use this unit for delivering regulated power to Harris and Motorola public safety radios during maintenance and repair.

I like the display on the 832 better than the higher model 832A, which I find to be a bit more complex and unnecessary.

This is the 4th device that I have from Rigol - every one has been superb value for the money and every one of them compare favorably with my "lab quality" units from Agilent and TEK.

Whether you're just starting your test bench, or already have lots of equipment - these Rigol units are definitely worth a look. Although priced a bit higher than some of the other "economy" units, they perform very well.

There's not a lot to say about a product when everything "just works". Controls are intuitive, voltage output is WELL within spec according to my DM3068 and I haven't any issues yet. My only potential gripe is that the fan is a bit loud at full output and only acceptably loud/quiet at idle where it's fairly similar to the noise of my MSO4014. At least it's just a "whir" though and not a rattle. All things considered - it's a top notch P/S and I'd highly recommend for anyone needing a precision bench supply.

I have been using this power supply for a few weeks now and I so far I like it. The interface might seem a bit weird at first with the ring of number buttons, but it works pretty well once you've gotten used to it. Based on the limited test gear that I have, it appears to be well within its claimed specifications. I've been able to leave it for long periods of time (2 hrs) outputting ~60 watts out of two channels without issue.

The only issue I have with this power supply is the calibration date. I understand that there will be some time lost due to shipping and time in a warehouse, but the unit I received will require calibration only 2 months after receiving it. I don't care that much about the calibration because I'm using this for my electronics hobby, but I'm sure some people will.

Rise & fall time, frequency, voltage, VPP, delay and phase difference between two signals, and all other sorts of measurements are a breeze. Just a push of a couple of buttons and you've got all kinds of info (automatically measured) about your signal!

The only downside... this scope was manufactured in China and the owner's manual isn't translated into English as good as it could have been. However, that's a minor concern as the manual is good enough.

It's responses is very fast and adjustable which is nice. One item I did not like is the low volume buzzer it has which is hard to hear. In a continuity test I found it much faster than my handheld meters but not as fast in detecting continuity as say a fluke 27 but not bad at all. I am very happy with this meter and it has features I have as of yet to use.

Overview: Simply put, this power supply is a brick. The construction is stout and the exterior has an amazing attention to detail. Performance is spot on.

Pros:
-Two isolated supplies
-Intuitive configuration, I didn't have to consult the manual to get it working how I wanted
-Rigol packaging is first class, I have no doubt that the unit is well protected while shipping. Double outer box and custom formed foam supports on either end of the unit.
Cons:
-Since it doesn't have feet and the screen has somewhat poor side viewing capability, it can be hard to read the LCD when it is sitting on my bench and I am standing above it looking down at an angle of 45 degrees. I remedied this by placing a small piece of wood under the front to angle the front slightly.
-Does not come with any stock banana clips
-The power connector on the back comes out the left side when facing the front of the unit. This is opposite to my Rigol oscilloscope. I wish they could make up their mind.

I JUST CHECKED ON THE DP832 POWER supply that i just purchased from TE and found that the one I got has the newer modified Hardware with the bigger heatsink.
you can check it by looking on the RHS holes, if you see silver color heat sink, then you got the new one.
the old heat sink was black and very small that caused the regulator to get hot and caused the PS to reset intermittently.
I wanted to upgrade to the bigger version with "A" at the end of the model name, i think it means accurate, but it costs double.
may be purchacing the Hi-Res option for $102 is a cheaper logical option.
so I'm so happy with my DP832 Power supply and it does serve its purpose very good.
and may be I'll add the DP1116A later in near future.

The unit itself rocks. I have had no issues using it on a daily basis for over 2 months. The feature meet my needs and the unit is relatively accurate for the price point. It is intuitive and easy to navigate. the unit powers up and is ready very quickly.

Only 2 complaints.

You have to reset the display mode every time you power the unit. For example, if you set the display to invert (Dark background, light colored text) you have to reset it after every power cycle. it is somewhat annoying. After a little while it just becomes routine during the start of your day.

There was not allot of probe swag... Just the probes and alligator clip attachments. The probes/leads could have been a little longer.

Outside of the above, it was a good buy for 5.5 digit meter.

Easy to use general supply

In general I'm very happy with the operation of this supply. All features I've tested work as expected. Rating marked down due to cons.

Pros:
* I've found the somewhat odd but flexible value input control very useful for fine and coarse control.
* High accuracy option usually eliminates need to add external voltage and current meters; displayed values were within specs.
* Channel controls are easy to use. Ability to turn channels off and on is very useful.
* Over-voltage and over-current controls work well, and can prevent damaging circuits.
* Remembers last values entered between power cycling.

Cons:
* Entering feature option codes is unpleasant, difficult and slow. In some cases they won't work if microcode isn't correct but it isn't obvious that's the cause.
* Not all outputs are independent; grounds are shared between 2nd 30v and 5v.
* Takes several seconds from time power switch is turned on to when the supply is ready to use.

The first impression of the model DS1102E is that it is well made, having a very clean feel with decent hardware. The overall style is attractive. The cooling fan is audible to a point of slight distraction, but this is not a deal breaker.

The main consideration for any oscilloscope is accuracy in delivering a faithful representation of signals measured, and the ability to trigger on any signal in a predictable manner within the bandwidth limits of the oscilloscope.

Test 1:

The RIGOL DS1102E Digital oscilloscope was evaluated for performance in the X-Y mode. For comparison, a Hameg HM203-6 20MHz analog oscilloscope was used in the identical mode.

A stable square wave reference is converted to a linear ramp representing a reference musical instrument note frequency. In this example the frequency is C4 or "middle C" at 261.63 Hz.
The linear ramp will sweep the trace in the "X" input at a fixed rate. If the measured analog waveform, "Y input" or note "C4" in this case is pitch locked, it will not translate to the right or left. For example: if a note is sharp it will translate or move to the left.

It is helpful for the oscilloscope to have the ability to fine tune or "uncal" the volts/div range for X and Y in this mode of operation, and also the X position adjustment is critical for a centering of the waveform on the screen. This is to achieve a decent viewable image.

Y axis:
This is the real time measured signal. V-position and volts/div will set the vertical position and the height respectfully of the measured waveform.

X-axis:
The sweep width across the scopes screen is dependent on the volts/div setting and a fine adjust or "uncal" is necessary to fill the screen completely. There should be no dead or wasted space in the horizontal signal seen on the oscilloscope trace.

X-position:
This adjustment is critical in centering the horizontal signal after the X-axis is adjusted.

The Hameg provided a very clean and trustworthy image due to the inherent adjustments of the oscilloscope.

The RIGOL DS1102E did not allow for the adjustments as stated above. There is no "uncal" position for the X or Y axis. Even with the finest increments available selected, the waveform remained truncated on the screen. The image was a coarse representation of the true analog counterpart. Every attempt was made to duplicate the results of the 20MHz analog scope with results that were unstable and unpredictable from the RIGOL DS1102E.
The sampling rate was toggled between Sa=500.0Ksa/sec and 50.0Msa/sec. The highest sampling rate produced an unintelligible signal with random sampling points. The digital representation on the RIGOL DS1102E has undefined samples at times defining impossible data values.

Test 2:
The RIGOL DS1102E was tested for trigger accuracy. The oscilloscope has issues with zero crossings and locking into the basic waveform of a bassoon reed.
(261.63 Hz)
The threshold must be set to capture the highest peak for this scope to lock into the analog waveform. All possible trigger combinations were tested with similar results.
The trigger was tested with the linear ramp and it performed perfectly at different thresholds. The trigger circuitry should be redesigned for stability in complex waveforms.

The HAMEG locked into the same bassoon reed waveform at any position of the trigger threshold translating it on the X-axis predictably.

Test 3:
RIGOL DS1102E
Bandwidth limit was tested to try and clean up the waveform representation. It had no effect, as the digital representation was yarn like or fuzzy misrepresenting the real analog counterpart. HF rejection had no effect on the visual interpretation of the RIGOL DS1102E.

The Digital Filter was tested with a ramp of 261.63 Hz. The type was Low Pass, and the cutoff frequency was set to 20KHz. At a factor or 76 times the fundamental frequency there was significant ringing on the linear ramp. Overshoot occurred at 45KHz (Lo Pass cutoff), and increased significantly down to 20KHz. The intent of the Digital filter was to clean up the yarn like appearance of these waveforms.
As results caused overshoot and ringing, the filter was disabled.

Conclusion:
Beautifully made and with a nice user interface the RIGOL DS1102E showed room for improvement in the above tests when compared to a 20MHz oscilloscope with technology that preceded it by 20 years.

The RIGOL DS1102E is a lobbyist oscilloscope at best.

A storage oscilloscope may be the best bet for those who would like to capture waveforms and make measurements by way of cursors.

For accuracy in waveform traces, an analog oscilloscope remains to be the best bet.

I bought this scope for occasional use for my HAM radio home brew activity. Some of the projects a of digital nature and the DS1102E is far beyond expectations. A very helpful feature is the digital storage. If you want to measure rise times, this is the way to go. Screen not big enough, store it on a stick and view at your computer.I have used it so far for many measurement tasks, that include but are not limited to, for example to check an Oxygen Sensor. I am quite impressed with the device, you can't beat the price. Sure there are other more expensive scopes, but why buy an American name that is basically made in China too.
I love this OScope and recommend it to anyone that needs to do time or frequency measurements.
Best of all, it is light weight and can be taken anywhere.

Great budget bench meter

This meter has plenty of features for hobbyists and low-level industrial/commercial work. As long as you don't need ethernet capability or the other communication protocols of its bigger brother, it is just as useful as the DM3058.

Two things kept this meter from getting 5 stars. The first is the small internal datalogging memory of only 2000 data points. The other is the annoying soft power button on the front panel of the meter. There is a hard power switch on the rear, but the front button glows in a pulse pattern like an Apple product. Completely out of place on a piece of electronic test equipment.
