This is my first MSO and it works very well at the basic things a scope does. The wave source generator is great too. I do have a few comments though. 1. The I2C Decode does not work. The Rigol tech told me they know and are working on a fix. That was months ago. Plus, I spent days trying to figure it out and finally sent Rigol a full set of screen shots of multiple explanations. Only to be told, right, that doesn't work. 2. The documentation is poor. So is the Web Site. Rigol could use a professional english-speaking team to develop quality english documentation. Much of it is in Chinese! 3. The menus are not quite intuitive. They aren't bad. But I find there are thing that don't make sense, or that I still haven't been able to figure out. Best thing would be for Rigol to provide discussion forum (like everyone else does) and have their techs address customer questions and such there. As it is, I send an email and wait a week for a question back, respond, and wait another week... I do recommend the scope. But documentation and technical customer support could be better.

My first Rigol instrument and I am so pleased. It took a while to comb through the manual to explore all the functions. The features are extensive so it will take some time to go through it all. Every thing seems to work as specified and all is very positive. The included extra trigger features are imbedded already as received and active for a about a 30-day trial period. My unit as purchased included the extra options package so it required a somewhat complicated process to unlock the options to enable a permanent unlock. This display is crisp and well laid out. I really appreciate the multicolor view to immediately identify the channel input and various measurement values. I have had many years of oscilloscope usage from early analog and up to recent digital monochrome screen indicators. This scope is such dramatic improvement in readability and quantity of data available. Many parameters can be selected by soft keys to tailor a variety of viewable functions. Overall, I couldn't be more pleased with the styling and performance. Also, the compact package makes it so portable for minimum bench space or situating it close to other equipment under test. Rigol did a great job of offering a fine scope at a very competitive price.

A very good price for a useful tool. The multi protocol analysis and triggering packages work. I wish they worked a bit faster. Also, you can't capture very much at once. When analyzing CAN traffic, I can't expand my window beyond 10ms without the bus analyzer failing. This surprises me because at 20ms or greater, I can still zoom in on the signal and see plenty of samples per bit. I would like to be able to do analysis on time periods greater than 10ms, but I guess I get what I pay for. Other thoughts: the bus decoding doesn't always line up perfectly with the waveform. The bus triggering seems to work very well. All-in-all, this plugin is very useful and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to visualize and diagnose digital communication.

The software bundle consisting of advanced triggering, decoding and deeper memory is a good buy. Not everyone needs all the features but at the price why not enable all that this scope can do. Down the road, an advanced feature might be needed.

I had a question about the license key and Chris Armstrong at Rigol was very helpful. He recommended that I upgrade the firmware first. Firmware updates are available as a free download on the Rigol website.

Next, I downloaded and printed the Software License Certificate. This includes a key that must be inserted along with the scope's serial number into a form to be found on the Rigol Customer Center. Next, the License code must be entered into the oscilloscope using the Utility menu. This was the only difficult part: the code is quite long and the selection knob (the one next to the MENU button) tends to rotate when pushing it in to make the selection for each letter of the code. I found that using a fingernail to push the knob in for each selection made the process easier.

After that, one has a more capable and powerful piece of test equipment. This oscilloscope should serve my needs for years to come.
