This is a INDISPENSABLE unit which works infinitely better than the knockoffs you see on Amazon & Ebay. The motor is more balanced and much quieter than the knockoffs. We actually use it for heat shrink more than SMT/SMD component removal. Get the bent nozzles kit which are available on Amazon and Ebay. Once you have this rig, there is no turning back. you will want one for every bench. Try to find a side bracket on the internet. The USA version of the 861DWDW that Quick sells in the USA here does not come with it. But the Quick 861DW is still the best rig out there!

Tremendous upgrade to the standard $50 "hot air station" clones on other resellers everyone is familiar with. The accuracy of the outlet temperature is much higher, with much less overshoot. Personally, I primarily got this to more easily de-solder larger components to re-use given the current chip shortage (STM32s on prototype boards). I also successfully used the Quick 861DW to de-solder a broken USB receptacle on a laptop motherboard with very large thermal mass without burning, or messing up neighboring components!

If I was forced to find something negative about it, I would say it’s a little bit large compared to the $40 cheapo hot air stations that you can find elsewhere. Before I decided to purchase this product, I also considered the Hakko FR-810B and the Weller WTHA1N. I read reviews online and watched YouTube videos to get some in-depth info on each of them including this product. The Quick 861DW stands out for its intuitive controls (i.e., easy to operate out of the box). I like the fact that it has a standby mode when the hand piece is in its holder. It only has three manual programmable presets unlike the other two but this is good enough for me and what I need it for. Overall, from a semi-pro electronic technician's point of view, this is a very good value product that won't break the bank.

I upgraded from my old $70 rework system. This unit is so much better. Compared to the old one, it melts the solder effortlessly no matter the size of the chip. I found settings 350deg with air flow 50-70 work best. I keep the temp setting constant and adjust the air flow for larger components or tiny smd caps. It is so much quieter than the old unit as well. Recommend.

Defective. But “Quick” support was wicked “Quick” to resolve!

New out of box. Memory presets would save, but would reset to factory defaults after power cycle. Called Tequpiment for swap, but they referred and offered me “Quick” support first. So glad I did. Quick told me the firmware on the front board is bad. The fix is for them to send a new board with the updated corrected firmware, for a customer self install. It delivered in one week. Took me about 10-15 minutes to open up the 861DW and swap the board. Wicked easy. Powered on and presets are now saving on restarts. This was surprisingly a very painless process. I much preferred this method, over boxing old up, driving to postal carrier, waiting for new to arrive solution. I had zero downtime. Was able to use the DS861DW while waiting for part to arrive. Mad props to Quick! Wish all my support requests were this painless! As far as the unit review. Loving it so far. Previous was a piece of junk that rarely detected cradled sleep mode. The Quick is flawless when cradled. I wish it had a software power button vs a hard rocker switch though. As the cradle sleep mode is so effective, I forget that it’s turned on. I have left it on overnight a few times. Would be a nice feature to power off after X hours in sleep mode. I ended up just moving it to my 3 hour Belikn AC timer switch, to solve. Had that for my soldering iron. Helpful tool for people like me who forget. In short, love the Quick 861DW. Support is beyond stellar.

Works well. It's more compact than it appears in the usual pictures. Temperature is about as accurate as can be expected. The power is great; you can apply enough heat at low velocity to not blow around small components. The only complaint I have is the power supply causes LED lights on the same circuit to flicker a bit; a known problem with these units. Don't forget to log in and get your discount.

I have had the Quick for almost 2 years. It has never let me down. Easy to use and set interface. I bought all of the round nozzle tips for it but I had to search a bit to find the angled nozzles. The angled nozzles are nice to use as the handset is at a more natural position. I have heard that sometimes customer service is a bit hard to deal with but I have not had the need to ever contact them. I am very happy with my purchase.

This really surprised me, especially for the cost. It's very user friendly and straightforward, but also very powerful at the same time. The only real complaint I have is that the hot air cord could be a tad longer, sometimes it's a bit too short for a normal working environment. Purchased this after my old hot air rework machine had trouble with large planes and no heat reliefs on pcbs. Lots of air and heat. Easy to set presets. Just wish two things. First, the nozzle seems to be intentionally setup to prevent using standard nozzles. There's an adapters, but only seems available in Europe. Secondly, there should be a standby switch for use in a stand. Perhaps a magnet in the right spot would work.

While the other reviews of this hot air station do it justice for it's speed and performance, there is one way in which it isn't ideal. When removing a part or doing a small bit of reflow, the handle must be out of the holder which means that if the machine is on, it is running. Without an additional switch, you need to turn off the power to disable the station while you position (or reposition) the nozzle. It's not critical in that you *can* use one of the presets as an idle state. But, it would be preferably to be able to leave the station idling. Still, highly a recommended tool.

I bought this to replace the air pencil from a cheap Ayoue unit. A friend had this one and the Metcal one and felt they were equally capable. Prior to my purchase I tried it on a number of boards and found it got hot quickly, was easy to control, and did the job well. I added the 2.5mm nozzle because I find myself removing (or adding) 0603 zero ohm jumpers on the boards we use and the larger nozzle can sometimes get two loose instead of just the jumper of interest. I can definitely recommend it.

Good station overall. Haven't spent a ton of time with it to see how reliable it will be, but time will tell. Power supply inside station does effect lab lights when turned on and used. Isolating it may remedy this issue, or maybe a ferrite bead. Haven't tried that yet though.

Hot air has greatly improved my ability to work surface mount parts but after observing my Atten 'fire starter' glow uncontrollably red hot I knew I didn't want to wait for an accident to occur.

I've only used it once so far, but it seemed to work fine. I had to solder two very small MEMS mics with the pads underneath the packages and not visible. Using just a very small dab of solder paste on each pad, I successfully soldered both. It does make fluorescent lights flicker however as stated in other reviews. Not sure what causes that, but it seems to be a common complaint.

Ordered from Tequipment on Monday, had the unit on Thursday. Unit was well packed in a box and packing material housing the oem box. This unit is a great option between the cheaper knockoffs with poorly supported heating elements/poorly insulated handpieces and far more expensive known brands. Heats up quickly, stabilizes well and offers wide range of airflow settings. Can set flow low enough to not blow 402 components off paste with a 2.5 nozzle but still flow them nicely. I do use a small preheater underside, however this station seems to perform as well or better in the same configuration as a $960.00 big name unit i have used at work; also VERY easy to understand the settings with no confusing blinking asterisks, magic "advance to next option" button-pushing of the high dollar station. Now to just see how reliable it is over the long term. Heater does cause some minor power flicker in flourescent lights if on the same power circuit (about 2 hz flicker). Ground fault and return testing indicates proper and the unit has a Pi iso filter on the input, perhaps just needs a better tuned/fatter filter. Not a show stopper for the great value and performance.

The Quick 861DW station is much better than the cheap $75-$150 generic models on ebay. The 861DW is replacing a cheap station I've had for 5 years. It is much quieter, has a stand that automatically shuts off heat and cools hand piece, and regulates temp well. The 3 channels are for setting heat and fan level presets. This is handy for different common tasks like warming adhesives vs soldering. There are more tips options than usual stations. The overall construction is good for the price. The only negative I see is the tube between the base and hand piece should be a foot longer. If you are reworking very large BGAs it might be worth considering the higher power models or adding a board warmer for the bottom side.
