The SMZ-168-TL represents Motic’s top of the line stereo microscope. Used in research applications from biology to material science, the SMZ-168-TL features high quality Greenough optics with crisp, three-dimensional upright images. Its standard configuration features an industry leading working distance of 113mm, providing users ample with space to move and adjust specimens as they work.
The SMZ-168-TL is a zoom microscope, enabling users to move through the complete magnification range with the single turn of a knob. The zoom also contains five click stops, allowing for quick and repeatable magnification settings – this is especially important when using reticules or digital cameras for taking measurements.
The standard overall magnification is 7.5x-50x, with no need to adjust focus - the SMZ-168-TL’s optics are designed for parfocality throughout the entire zoom range. Motic also manufactures a wide range of optional eyepieces and objectives, expanding the total magnification from 3.8x to 320x. Please see the chart on page 22 of
this link for a complete list of eyepiece and objective combinations, along with their corresponding optional performance. The SMZ-168-TL is a very versatile microscope, and can be easily customized to suit your application.
Working distance refers to the amount of space between your specimen and the microscope’s objective – the larger the distance, the more freedom users have to manipulate specimens, as well as use tools, such as needles, tweezers, and other dissection instruments. In the standard configuration, the SMZ-168-TL has a working distance of 113mm. This can be extended as far as 324mm, providing users with a great deal of freedom and mobility.
The SMZ-168-TL features a large number of optional eyepieces, for many different uses. Six additional widefield models are available, in magnifications of 5x, 6.25x, 15x, 20x, 30x and 32x. Several styles of measuring eyepieces are also available, with built in reticules. These includes graduated linear line, cross hair, and a 360 degree protractor. There are also six optional optional objectives – 0.3x, 0.5x, 0.63x, 0.75x, 1.5x and 2.0x.
The SMZ-168 is also available in both binocular and trinocular formats. Documentation is made simple with Motic’s line of digital microscope cameras, the Moticam and Moticam Pro. Available in over 20 configurations, these range from entry level/standard resolution, to scientific grade CCD imagers with integrated Peltier cooling.
