Klein Tools Borescopes / Boroscopes

A Borescope or Boroscope is used for inspection of inaccessible areas. It is ideal for a non-destructive testing and visual inspections looking for defects, imperfections, or other problems. They are used in a wide range of applications and come in a variety of versatile styles to suit any need. The origin of the word comes from the need to inspect the bore of large guns. Use of a borescope may save considerable time and expense by avoiding a more thorough maintenance teardown.

Borescope Applications
  • Fiber Optic Networking
  • Mechanical inspection of engines and other machinery
  • Medical
  • Metallurgical inspections for burrs and other casting or machining flaws
  • Military and Law Enforcement
  • Pest Control, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, and Water Restoration
  • Residential, Facilities and Building Inspections
Borescope Types
  • Endoscope (not available from TEquipment). We have heard reports of re-purposing of medical endoscopes for industrial uses. Consider instead a video borescope
  • Fiberscope or Fiber Optic Scope traditionally has a pistol grip end with a magnifying eyepiece and a rigid or flexible probe with a lens. A battery is used to power an illuminating light. The image of the remote object is brought to the eyepiece through fiber optic cables.
See our selection at Products > Tools > Fiber Optic Cable Tools and Fiber Scopes
  • Video Borescope, also called Videoscope or Inspection Camera, is the most popular type we offer. Imagine a Fiberscope outfitted with a video camera at the tip and an LCD display in place of the eyepiece.
Key Video Borescope Features to Consider
  • Articulating gooseneck probe or camera head, to permit adjusting the camera viewing angle
  • Data logging of still pictures and video with voice annotation
  • FOV. Correct field of view of the camera for standard or close up work
  • Light at the camera tip to illuminate the target object with adjustable light level
  • Probe and camera diameter for the application
  • Probe length and if longer lengths can be purchased as a later upgrade
  • Probe tip accessories such as hook, magnet, and mirror
  • Screen size and pixel resolution
  • Submersible probe/camera head
  • Wireless transmitter to remotely view the video
