Instek GDS-1104B 100MHz, 4-Channel, Digital Storage Oscilloscope

Great all-around DSO

5.0

Immediate things you might want to know first: First, all models in the GDS-1000 class can be remotely controlled via USB, but only the four-channel models have an ethernet port. The ethernet port can be used to save output to a server, in addition to being a means for remote interactive control. Only the 2 channel models have external trigger BNC, but of course you could trigger with your 3rd or 4th channel on the 4 channel models instead. Second, this unit is made in Taiwan. Instek probably makes, or has made them, in several locations(hence some of the marketing images which show "Made in China"), but the one I got definitely says "Made in Taiwan", as the information on this page indicates. A very good manual comes on a CD along with drivers, though you can register on Instek's site for updated manuals/firmware/apps for the scope. It's not a MDO, so you're not going to get a super powerful spectrum analyzer, but it does do a decent plain FFT, which is great for this price point. UI is intuitive and responsive, and pretty quick to use. I've just done some basic circuit analysis so far, but it's got quite a bag of tricks, and unless I get into a project that needs lots of digital inputs, or powerful spectrum analysis requirements, I think I'll be quite happy with it as my digital scope.
