An Ultra Portable "Flip-Up" Document Camera
This new HoverCam will be replacing the T3 model and quite a few enhancements have been made. The HoverCam Solo 5 Ultra Portable Document Camera scans documents through a flip-up 5 megapixel camera to print, fax, email, or even point at yourself for web conferencing or presentations. The Solo 5 features receipt and business card management software, using OCR to automatically build your expense reports and contact lists as well as record, annotate and share your screen and use cloud services via our software suite. In addition, the Solo 5 uses a built-in microphone which records from up to 30 feet away and AVI files can be saved directly to a hard drive. The Solo 5 is roughly half the size of the T3, but has a larger scan capability for A3 (default), A4, letter, and even legal sizes.
What are the differences between the HoverCam Solo5 and HoverCam T3?
- True High definition (1080P full HD video)
- Size – The Solo 5 is roughly half the size of the T3. This unobtrusive size allows it to sit out of the way when not in use. It can also be very easily stored or transported and set up anywhere you need it.
- Autofocus (T3 HoverCam is manual focus)
- Quick access to controls – The Solo 5 has quick access buttons in its base, so you don’t always have to go back to the computer for basic controls.
- Flip-Up Camera – The Solo 5’s camera can flip up, allowing it to be used as a web cam. The T3’s camera only points straight down.
- Resolution – The Solo 5 has a 5 MP camera while the T3 has a 3 MP camera. Because of that, the Solo 5 can reach image resolutions up to 2592 x 1944, much higher than the 1920 x 1600 the T3 can produce. This results in crystal clear, detailed scans and video.
- Larger Scan Size – The default scan size on the Solo 5 is A3, but it also scans in other sizes like A4, Letter, and Legal. The T3 has a smaller scan size of 9 x 12 inches.
- Video – The Solo5 offer twice the video performance of the T3 and has the world’s fastest refresh rate of any true 5MP camera. This means no more slow video or blurry images.

HoverCam Cloud Integration
Cloud integration means you can access your HoverCam library anywhere. A teacher could record her lessons – both video and audio – and at the conclusion of class, upload the video files to one of our many integrated cloud solutions, including EverNote and DropBox. At that point, she could share the file with students who happen to be absent that day. She could save the lesson and replay it the next time she needs to teach the same class again. She could use the cloud to share lessons with substitute teachers when she has to skip a day. How will you use the cloud?
Other features and benefits:
True 5.0 MegaPixel resolution
The Solo 5 delivers 2x the resolution compared to both the highest HD TV resolution (1080P) and our best-selling HoverCam T3. It offers a range of resolutions from 2592x1944 at 15fps to 800x600 at 30fps. This means you get exceptional clarity.
Autofocusing convenience with an autofocus lock
The Solo 5 incorporates a tiny autofocusing CMOS sensor and lens module. From any angle or distance, your images become instantly clear. With autofocus and AF Lock, blurry images are a thing of the past.
Double the speed
The Solo 5’s onboard image processing chip delivers MJPEG compressed video to PC or Mac at the fastest speed in its class. It displays full 5MP resolution without cropping at 15 frames per second (fps). This reduces blurriness so that students can concentrate on learning while teachers can deliver distraction-free lessons.
Zoom from A3 to a Quarter
Position the camera from 17.7” to 1.4” above the surface to achieve 12x mechanical zoom. Combined with the 16x digital zoom, the Solo 5 has an amazing 192x effective magnification. This amazing zoom ability allows you to see the tiny details on a quarter, which are virtually undetectable to the human eye, to be clearly shown on screen. When zoomed out, you can display a single A3, i.e., two U.S. Letter-sized pages side by side.
On-board Shortcut Keys
The Solo 5 Onboard Shortcut Buttons allow you to control the camera without your mouse or keyboard. Use the buttons to the right to see what each button does.
