I bought this tool to desolder some components from multi-layer PCBs where I was finding my other spring-solder suckers were not working well.. This tool is really good for that. Its almost makes it fun to do desoldering. It safely removed my micro-switches and other components from my multi-level PCBs with NO Damage. And it was fairly quick to remote these components — those I did get the occasional lead that required me to reflow solder into the eyelet, and then desolder again. But even so — it did a super job doing this. It has four heat settings. I had to used setting 4 for the multi-layer PCBs. I also removed quite a number of burned out LEDs from a single layer PCB. Setting 1 was adequate for this. This was where it was really “fun” to desolder, as it only took about two seconds per leaded to de-solder, and quite literally the LEDs DROPPED from the PCB after I desolder red them, and the resulting PCB pads remained in MINT condition. I was really impressed. I didn’t find the unit got too hot too hold, and it was lightweight, and comfortable to hold. The only thing I would suggest to people considering buying this, is to make sure you buy one of Hakko’s drill cleaning bits when you get this unit. The poker that comes with it will not always clean the desoldering tube and it might become totally clogged. However if you have the cleaning drill, it is relatively easy to clear up solder that might be blocking the tube. Over all, I would highly rate this.. I wish I had purchased this years ago. It would have made it so much easier for me!
