In-line taps install on LAN or WAN links between two network devices providing instantaneous access to layer 1-7 traffic. No configuration or switch resources are required when monitoring devices plug into taps for real-time analysis.
In-line taps offer the clearest access to network link traffic, providing visibility of error, oversized, undersize, tagged and malformed packets. In-line taps provide the most accurate representation of inter-packet timing and response time degradation for applications, whereas SPAN ports can skew packet timing. Two network interfaces on in- line taps provide the necessary bandwidth for full duplex, high bandwidth traffic monitoring. In-line taps compliment protocol analyzers and network forensic solutions.
Multi-port in-line taps increase the ROI and visibility of analysis devices by allowing them to be remotely "pointed" to any number of links that are attached to the tap. This simplifies and speeds remote link analysis, especially in troubleshooting scenarios. Network managers can now leverage their investment in analysis solutions across multiple locations on the network without having to physically move patch cords or buy multiple analysis devices.
