The SRL8 Heated Diode Refrigerant Leak Detector is designed exclusively to make the HVAC/R Technician's job easier, faster, safer and more efficient. We set out to develop the best heated diode leak detector for HVAC/R. We believe the SRL8 is it. It comes in kit form in a rugged, blow-mold case with all of the extras you don't get from the other guys. The Fieldpiece ergonomic standalone design fits naturally in your hand. The ruggedized construction stands up to abuse most other leak detectors can't handle. The 15-hour battery life lets you work all day and then some before recharging. The included vehicle and wall chargers help you during overtime. The MUTE and ZEROing functions allow you to work the way you want to work. The magnetic hanger helps keep the detector out of the way when repairing a leak, but visible enough so you won't leave it on the job.
In the specifications, it lists that one of the gases measured is CFC. What does that stand for?

CFC stands for Chlorofluorocarbon. This is an organic compound that consists of carbon, fluorine, and chlorine.

the heated diode is a servicable part.so if it dies during the warranty period it is not covered.yes its price is an exhorbitant amount close to $100 AU.Liasing with a field piece rep various reasons were given for why it may have failed water ingress etc.But the ones that really topped the list were acidic/contaminated refrigerant and testing in areas with to high a concentration.kinda invalidates it as useful tool in the work place. While changing the diode i thought i migh have a look at the pump design.Pretty much the same as an infra red i purchased around seven years ago,yes that died from misuse working in a confined area with shiny stainless evap condensate pan that contained water.you guessed it sucked up a gut ful and i was using the probe.fair enough i thought,i'll replace the sensor tube.WRONG the outlet of the pump just like this one spews it over the an unsealed PCB.Absolutely useless and unservicable.Back to the diode,i was assured i would not have a problem as i would be replacing tek mates etc at two to three times the rate as i would with a fieldpiece unit in its serviceable life time.So given all this information I can only conclude that this heater is the only manufactured item in the world that cannot fail within a warranty period. If you like buying TOYS you will absolutely love this one.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Comments from TEquipment: Thank you for your recent order and for your feedback. We apologize that you were not totally satisfied with this order. We will provide this feedback to the manufacturer.

Testing Fieldpiece SRL8 leak detector
I began testing the Fieldpiece SRL8 leak detector on a small freon leak on a flared filter drier connection that showed a small bubble in 20 to 30 seconds. The SRL8 was too sensitive on high and went to the lowest setting and found the leak. I also tested an auto compressor that leaked freon out a year on 2 pound charge. The leak show up on the medium setting. Very good product.
