45˚ Wide Angle Lens
Powerful Infrared Imaging
The FLIR T640bx is a powerful thermal camera, designed for experts who work in the field every day. The T640bx is one of the top cameras in the FLIR T-Series. It features high thermal resolution at 640x480 pixels, for a total of 307,200 pixels. A large temperature range of -40°F to 3,632°F with high thermal sensitivity at 30mK means users can capture thermal pictures of almost any object with impressive temperature detail. The T640bx also features FLIR Alarm Alerts, only available on "bx" model cameras. These alarms can be programmed to alert you to the presence of user-defined levels of humidity and dew point, as well as areas where in-wall insulation is compromised. This version of the T640bx comes with a 45-degree wide angle lens included. Seven other lens options are available for additional purchase as well.
FLIR T640bx Specifications
UltraMax™ is a powerful super-resolution technology which effectively increases IR image resolution by up to four times while reducing image noise by 50 percent. Measurement accuracy is also increased due to a smaller measurement spot size. UltraMax works by capturing 16 thermal images per second then combining them together in-camera. This feature is available on the T640bx. Read on for a more detailed description.
The T640bx thermal camera features an integrated compass. When active, this device automatically embeds camera pointing direction in thermal images, making it easy to relocate image capture sites.
The T640bx infrared camera also features a built-in GPS device. This device can embed exact location coordinates in thermal images. This makes relocating image capture sites even easier and can save lots of time during inspections.
Certain FLIR infrared cameras feature a viewfinder for easier image capture in bright, outdoor environments where the touchscreen would be hard to see due to glare. The T640bx includes a viewfinder.

UltraMax is a unique type of infrared super-resolution technology available exclusively from FLIR. Available on most T-Series cameras including the T640bx, UltraMax is able to increase the resolution of captured thermal images by up to four times while reducing noise by 50%. That means that for the T640bx, infrared image resolution goes from 640x480 to an impressive 1,280x960 pixel resolution. UltraMax is also able to increase measurement accuracy because of the smaller measurement spot created by the increase in pixels. This is possible because UltraMax actually captures 16 thermal images per second when active. When the camera is handheld, each image is offset from the others, allowing the software to combine them in-camera into the resulting UltraMax image. The images below illustrate how this works.
FLIR MSX is a form of image blending or thermal fusion technology. When active, MSX captures visible light images along with all infrared images. However, unlike other versions, MSX is totally unique because instead of simply blending or combing images together, MSX actually extracts the details and high-contrast areas from the visible light image and combines them with the thermal image. The result is a highly detailed infrared picture with enough clarity to see words and numbers while still retaining all radiometric data. Blending percentage can also be adjusted in-camera or during image review. The images below show a comparison of MSX and non-MSX images.
The T640bx was designed specifically for professionals who work with their thermal tools on a daily basis. The camera weighs less than 3 pounds, making it easy to hold and carry throughout the work day. To make infrared imaging with the T640bx even easier, FLIR included a rotating optics block. This means that the camera's lens can be articulated up and down by a total of 120 degrees to make image capture easier in tight or awkward areas. The T640bx also features a simple and intuitive interface where critical buttons are always within easy reach when handheld. Most settings can also be easily adjusted via the camera's touchscreen and simple menus.
The T640bx infrared camera supports wireless communication with mobile devices and certain FLIR and Extech handheld meters.
A Full Line-up of Accessories Gives You Room to Grow
On the T640bx thermal camera, the 4.3-inch touchscreen plays a crucial role in the camera's operation. The touchscreen serves as a viewfinder, although a true viewfinder is also integrated into the T640bx for use in brighter environments. After capture, images can be reviewed and adjusted from this screen as well. Many important camera settings and preferences can be adjusted from the screen as well via simple touch menus. FLIR Auto Orientation is also included which ensures that screen images remain upright no matter the camera's orientation.
The T640bx features a built-in compass and GPS device. These features enable you to embed exact GPS coordinates and camera pointing direction in thermal images. This makes relocating exact image capture sites much easier and saves time during repairs.
With the T640bx, annotations can be made on thermal images in several ways. Text comments can be made using the touchscreen keyboard. Voice annotations can be made using the included Bluetooth headset. Users can also sketch or draw directly on IR images via the touchscreen, as shown in the image to the right.
