Objectives
The following lessons are covered in this course:
- Infrared Camera Setup and Technique
- This section covers the basic operating procedures and techniques common to most infrared cameras, including the primary functions of an infrared camera and how to adjust the image.
- Infrared Thermography Basics. After this lesson you will be able to:
- Explain what makes thermography unique and useful.
- Define Infrared Thermography.
- Describe characteristics of Reverse Polarity.
- Thermal Science Fundamentals
- Explain the difference between heat and temperature.
- Recognize common heat measurement units.
- Explain the difference between absolute and relative temperature scales.
- Convert between Celsius and Fahrenheit temperatures.
- Convert between Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature differentials.
- Infrared Science Fundamentals
- What are you seeing with your infrared camera?
- Are you seeing an image of temperature or are we seeing emitted infrared energy?
- This section will explain what your camera senses and displays.
- Heat Transfer
- The successful application of infrared thermography mandates a thorough understanding of the principles and realities of heat transfer. The images displayed by a thermal imager (IR Camera) - thermograms - show the net result of what frequently is a very complicated heat transfer process.
- Understanding what heat is and how it flows within and between objects can indicate what is happening to that object.
- This lesson will cover heat transfer and the three modes for heat transfer, i.e. conduction, convection, and radiation.
- Infrared Measurement Techniques
- This lesson on Infrared Measurement will further your understanding of thermography in general and your ability to analyze an infrared image.
