Good meter
5.0
I bought this meter to build a guitar amp kit. It works great and overall I am pleased. As other reviewers have said, the only downside is that the stand does flex a little bit and does not lock in place….but it works.

Love my multimeter and by far my favotite.
This is my daily user for DC diagnostics and circuit repair. Just be careful not to hit it with 220VAC when set to ohms.

First True RMS DMM
5.0
This is my first entry level DMM and it's been great for me so far. The only thing I can complain about is the kickstand is a bit flimsy and doesn't have a satisfying click/snap to it when I flip it open or closed. But that's just aesthetics.

This is a good standard around the shop multimeter. It does exactly what you need it to do. The magnetic hanging strap is nice and we use it more then I initially thought we would. Its better then Flukes at the same price point.

I got this when one of my extremely old Fluke 177s died. Its not quite as lightning fast latching into readings, but other than that, it performs flawlessly. The accuracy compares to my still working Fluke 177

Quality Meter
5.0
The 2709B is a great, quality meter at a really good price. Very accurate and well-built. It's well designed - firm selector but easy to flip with one hand, clear display, good size(not too bulky, on the smaller side for most DMMs), back stand is thin but pretty sturdy and hanging magnet strap works well. Professional quality hand-held meter at a reasonable price.

2709B Meter - No Alligator Clips available
3.0
The 2709B multimeter basic functions appear to work as you would expect them to. However, B&K Precision doesn't seem to have accessories available for the 2709B meter, like compatible alligator clips. I received a product accessory pamphlet with my 2709B meter, but when I contacted B&K Precision about ordering the listed alligator clips I was told they had been discontinued. I was told I needed to purchase a new set of leads that came with alligator clips. Somehow, being required to buy new leads, just to get alligator clips, doesn't seem right. However, it may come down to having to do just that. Foolishly, I thought the test lead accessory mount thread size would be of a standard size. Apparently not. I have purchased two sets of threaded alligator clips from two other meter companies, but their thread sizes are not compatible with B&K Precision test lead threads.
Perhaps it would be best to switch to "other" company products that do support accessories.
B&K Precision customer support personnel have been very quick to respond to my inquiries and helpful is getting part numbers for spare fuses, but lack of compatible accessories is a no-go.
The B&K Precision person I was in contact with admitted that the pamphlet included with the meter was outdated and that the proper company personnel would be notified.

A Useful Meter
4.0
I have not used this meter much, but here are my thoughts:
PROS:
- It has a nice auto-ranging speed
- It has true RMS measurement
- Auto power off can be disabled
- Easy to read screen
CONS:
- It beeps on every click when you change modes
- It doesn't have a duty cycle measurement
- The backlight goes out too soon
- It doesn't have a data hold function
- Probe tips could have a sharper point
I bought this to be my main multimeter, and expect to get a lot of use out of it.

BK 2709B
5.0
I like everything about this multimeter, especially the price. This came highly recommended to me, and I found the lowest price on TEquipment.net. This is definitely meant to be portable. It fits nicely in the hand and I can move the dial to any position with one hand. It helps that there is an "off" position at either end of the dial. It also works well on the bench. The leg that folds out of the back is sturdy enough that you don't end up knocking it over every time you move the dial.
The display is easy to read, which is great if your eyes are getting older like mine. Even without the backlight on the digits and other aspects of the display are easy to see. It is easy on the ears too since the beeps your hear when moving the dial aren't annoying
The case flexes a little which makes me think it won't be the most durable multimeter out there, but I use it mostly on the bench anyway.
This was a great bargain and makes a good first or second multimeter.

Best for under $100?
5.0
We'd all like a Fluke, but on a budget this is a very well built multimeter. The leads are very nice and it has proper fuses.
It doesn't feel very durable for field work, but in the lab it should be perfect.

Excellent Under $100
5.0
We'd all like to have a Fluke, but when that is financially out of reach this is a great option. My main requirement was uA and this has it. It comes with good quality leads and probes.
It has good quality ceramic fuses to protect you against potentially deadly mistakes.
I does not feel like it would stand up to the abuse of field work, but otherwise the build quality is high and should be a great tool for the lab.

The meter has very good reviews, as well as all the functions I need. Knob turns easily with one hand. Quick response in auto-ranging. Clear screen. Working on wiring on motorcycle, computer troubleshooting. Even found an open in my electric jacket wiring. Good quality probes included. I very much like the meter. Magnet for hanging seems to be having an issue staying on the meter hold spot. But can be removed.

Just about the only thing this meter is lacking for my purposes is thermocouple compatibility, but I knew that when buying it. Great build quality and very durable meter, fits great in the hand. My only real qualm is the fact that it beeps every time the mode selector switch is used.

Great Multimeter
5.0
The 2709B is a great little multimeter for anyone who's looking for a first multimeter.
PROS:
- Nice green backlighting
- Works as expected :)
- Compact size, great if you have a crowded workbench
- The magnet on the back is convenient when you don't want to hold it and there's nowhere to put it.
- The function dial is very smooth
- When voltage is selected and probe is plugged into current, it beeps. Nice safety feature!
CONS:
- The beep when the function dial is turned is annoying sometimes
- The probes should be a tiny bit longer and a bit sharper.
The IWH case that came with the meter is also quite nice, it fits well.

nice meter
5.0
I only just got this meter recently, but I have some early opinions:
PROS:
1. I never considered it before buying, but the little magnet could be *very* hand for hanging it. It accidentally stuck to my benchtop power supply, and I thought, "wow, that's convenient!"
2. The dial rotation is silky smooth with solid detents. Much nicer than my older Extech, which has a hard-to-turn and sticky function dial. This is the main human interface with a meter and it just feels solid and well-built.
3. I like the high-count display. Better precision than my other meters, some of which were only a little less expensive.
4. I love the compact size. It's smaller than I expected, and that's a good thing on a crowded bench.
CONS:
1. The little plastic stand to make it stand up is a little narrow and wobbly for benchtop use. I'd only take off half a star for this if I could.
OVERALL: This is a great little meter. I do lots of tasks where several meters will really speed things up. Coupled with some good ProbeMaster probes, I think this meter is a winner.

I love this thing!
5.0
I know the stated dc volt accuracy is only stated as ?0.5% 2 digits but mine came within 1 least significant digit of my Flukes (87V, 179, 83V) and Brymen's (869s and 857S). The capacitance goes down to 3 places in nF range so 1 pF resolution and will read small ceramics accurately. That's better than most meters. I do find it strange that the low-range current socket is also used for capacitance. It's not a big deal though, just different. Another con may be that the Min/Max function does not also include an average for the duration of the measurement over time. There is also a beep when you change range switch positions which might annoy some people. I don't mind it as it's not that loud and the tone is not too bad.
I guess one of the main points that makes this such a pleasurable meter to use is that there are no secondary functions for any of the settings. Each measurement type is a separate selection on the range switch. Auto-ranging is pretty fast with a nice solid reading right after it's displayed. There is no flutter or "settling-in" to which makes you wait for a final accurate reading. The range switch itself has a very nice feel to it. Not a plastic creaky feel but nice smooth solid indent as if it were made with precision ball bearings. The test probes are also surprisingly good. The probe tips are not the sharpest but not blunt either. They are also very well machined and smooth which may be one of the reasons the continuity function (which is latched.)is responsive and nice. The removable insulated tip covers also snap on with a positive feel. The test leads are not silicone insulated but they feel nicer than 90% of the non-silicone leads I've owned. They are very pliable and flow nice. I own numerous sets of expensive silicone test leads but I regularly grab the BK Precision set from my wire rack to use in other meters. I actually have them plugged in my Agilent U1272a as I type this.
This might not be the most rugged case design but it more than makes up for it with general ease of use, solid accurate readings and physical appeal.
If you need a nice meter to live on your bench or for home use I'd totally recommend it. If I needed a meter for professional service work I would probably stick with a more industrial type Fluke, Brymen, Agilent,...

I would recommend this multimeter to anyone who is looking for a reliable and safe meter. I got this as a gift for a friend, and she really liked the quality and appearance of the tool. The IWH C-66 case is also the perfect size for this multimeter. The included probes are nice, but they could be a bit sharper.

Nice and easy to use meter.
4.0
This is my first "real" DMM, my old one was a sub $20 Chinese one and even so, it was hard to justify spending this much for basically the same functionality. However that all changed once I got the meter, I immediately understood the difference.
First of all, auto ranging is amazing, especially for resistors, but whats even better is you have to option to force it into a range, a nice added bonus.
The beeping is really actually helpful, this meter has already saved me 10's of times by warning me my probe was in the current slot when turning the dial to voltage, I was constantly shorting things with my old cheap meter. Same deal for the other way around, no more blowing fuses while trying to measure voltage in current mode.
As far as negatives:
1) Back-light only stays on for 60 seconds, quite annoying to keep turning it on in dim lighting.
2) Probes. The probes feel good and appear to be decent quality (at least compared to what I'm used to) but the coating makes is such that you really have to push down to make a reliable contact. In continuity mode I can hold one probe and rest the other on the tip and 9 out of 10 times it wont beep, or if it does, beep erratically. I put my cheap Chinese DMM probes in and it beeped instantly, every time. I have a feeling that the more I use them, the more the shiny coating will wear, and the better they will contact.

I have had this meter for a few years now and I have been very satisfied with it. I think it will be hard to find a better $100 meter considering the functionality, bandwidth, and load impedance. Definitely check this out if you are looking for cheaper alternatives to the pricey Fluke and A.gilent meters

FANTASTIC DMM
5.0
I love this meter for its simplicity and ease of use. The display is easy to read, the dial has a nice solid feel to it, and the size is perfect. It does beep when you switch modes but it's not that annoying, I've gotten used to it. I find myself reaching for this meter over my others. The probes are of very nice quality but I prefer my Fluke probes.
