Good general purpose freq counter
5.0
Good freq counter for general use. Usually does a good job of locking up on most signals automatically, but the manual trigger level can help in some situations. Does not have (or even have an option to add) an OCXO, which is not surprising in this price category. Internal crystal osc is pretty good right out of the factory after warm up, but if you require higher accuracy, or need to get the full 9 digits of resolution, you need to have a 10 MHz freq standard on your test bench (for multiple pieces of your test equipment that can make use use a ref osc). Using even a modest priced GPSDO or better for that purpose can let you use this counter for some work that overlaps the boundary of higher priced units. That makes these counters more of a test bench than a portable / field device normally, but that was my intended use. Display is bright enough and easy to read indoors, and I like the LED display on the bench. If you need an outdoor counter for some uses, the LED's will need you to shade them, which means outdoor use might be better served with an LCD display counter instead.

Not real accurate
3.0
I bought this unit looking for good accuracy, but was a little disappointed. I'm using this unit for RF alignments but it's not accurate enough for RF work. I suppose purchasing an external oscillator would be an option.

bk 1823a review
3.0
I actually thought that the BK1823A would also include a clock
whereby we would be able to use it as a cronometer. Othe than
this missing anticipation, we are statisfied with the instrument.

Good bargain but a bit outdated
4.0
Good quality instrument, but the only interface is RS232 serial port. The software that comes with it is serviceable and can log continuously to a file. The serial port command structure is a bit odd.
Spec-wise, the counter is good for the money and BK is a name brand.

BK1823A
5.0
First when I made the order I was pleased with the shipping, very fast the item arrived on time. The item was packed very well, The controls functioned very well, the operation of the controls was fine, testing was carried out with the actual displayed testing was excellent. A best buy. I would recomend this test equipment.

Works great for our needs.
4.0
This unit can get up to 9 digits of resolution for very accurate readings. We only use it up to 7 or 8 digits of resolution for fine tuning two way HF radio equipment. We make use of the Low Pass filter while measuring low frequency crystal oscillator signals down to 10Mhz.One thing I would have liked to see though is a better quality BNC cable and a quality set of test leads. Even with that being said, a great value for the price.

Ok for the price, but...
3.0
Users should be aware that the "RS-232C" interface on this unit is not standard RS-232. The 1823A does not have its own /-12v supply for the serial port. You have to supply an external 12v on the DTR pin and an external -12v on the RTS pin. BK supplies a Windows program to that should setup a PC's serial port this way, but I could not make this program run on Windows7. I had to write my own program that forced the RTS/DTR pins of a USB serial adapter to the right state before I send or receive any data from the 1823A.

Overall Good Value - Entry Level
4.0
If you're looking for a good entry level frequency counter then this unit might just fit the bill. It not a high performance unit and it doesn't have a high performance price.
