BK 1671A supply has good value for the price

The BK 1671A triple power supply is the first supply for my new electronics lab. The variable 0-30V at 0-5A supply will handle most things I need to power. Having the two fixed supplies gives me more value for my money. What I don't like is the sensitivity of the voltage and current adjustments, so if you require sub 500mV adjustment you should consider the BK 1627A which has coarse and fine controls.

12V fixed output is fragile

The 12V fixed output is just an off-the-shelf 7812 three-terminal regulator. It's not overcurrent protected like the main output, and it can't survive being shorted into the main output on the wrong side of ground, not even for a moment. That's a problem in the typical use of lab testing, where occasional brief short circuits are inevitable.
