Offers good protection against shock from current leaking to ground when working with AC, similarly to a GFCI, but through isolation rather than current leak detection. The one hand rule still applies though, neither solution protects against shock between hot and neutral.

I bought this so I can work on electronics that don't have a built-in transformer, such as All American Five radios, without the risk of getting electrocuted. I checked the continuity from the outlet to the plug with my multimeter, and confirmed that it does indeed isolate all three prongs from the mains. Not much else I can say... it's not a very exciting piece of equipment, but it does the job and you can't put a price on safety.
