Love this scope!
5.0
This scope is a fantastic value! I had an i2C issue that I couldn't seem to wrap my arms around - so decided to take the plunge and took advantage of the DS/MSO1000Z Option Bundle (AT-DS1000Z, MEM-DS1000Z, REC-1000Z, SA-DS1000Z) so I could get the i2C decoding. Spent an hour or so watching a few youtube videos, reading the Rigol documentation - and within 30 minutes of getting everything connected and adjusted I saw my issue and its now fixed. As a firmware developer I see this scope as an indespensible in my tool box!

DS1074Z and Software
5.0
I said in my previous review of the instrument (reviewed the software) that this scope is an outstanding addition to my test and measurement suite, as I am an Amateur Radio operator and retired Electrical/Systems Engineer. The capabilities of this tool are still being explored by me. It is a stellar performer so far and a joy to use on my bench. The provided software keys (which unlock built-in capability) are also are a great addition to this instrument.

Feature Pack, Great Price
5.0
For the money, this is a great feature packed scope. I was considering a Tektronix scope for home use, since we have so many of them where I work, and Tektronix is well regarded in the electronics industry. However, I took a chance on the Rigol DS1074Z and was not disappointed. In fact, now I feel the Tektronix scopes are more hype than performance. I did have a problem with all 4 of the included probes, but one call to Rigol's service center took care of the problem. They were very helpful and sent me a complete set of 4 new probes. Very happy with this purchase and Rigol service.

Well, all i can say now is i am happy with my 1074z, i have read some reviews about the fan noise but really it is not as noisy as i was thinking so it doesn't bother me at all. The menu is intuitive, for the price and what you get it is a good deal.I am still playing with it so maybe i am going to do a new review later

Lots of functions, takes a little bit to find everything through the UI. Works right out of the box.
Only complaint is that there are demos of certain advanced functions that you have to pay to unlock.

Amazing functionality for the price.
5.0
This scope has an incredible amount of functionality. With 4 channels and an elaborate series of on-screen menus there are few things any hobbyist and most engineers won't be able to do with this o-scope. You can get much more sensitive scopes but they won't come close to the price of this one. As a hobbyist and student of electronics myself I am very impressed with the compact and professional look and feel of this instrument.

So Far So Good
5.0
Out of the box and probes compensated without complaint. Initially couldn't decide between the MSO or DSO series but happy I decided on the the simplier machine. I have other logic analyzers that I'm happy with and learning another system seemed more time than I wanted to commit to now. Purchased this as my daily machine requiring minimal set up without a large investment up front. I have Keysignt and Tektronics machines that are older and far more expensive that really don't offer much more for simple day-to-day analysis. So far happy with the scope. Paid a little more for the 70 Mhz machine (same hardware as the 1054Z) but just didn't have the time to play the hacking game. So far so good. No complaints.

The DS 1074 is outstanding. It is very versatile. I use it for many more applications than what I originally intended. The one problem I had is that the Quick Guide manual is not complete enough. However, when I call for support, the technical assistance is overwhelming. They show real concern that I can accomplish my test objective. I would really like a complete manual so I don't nave to make the occasional service call. I have recommended this product to many people.

Upsides are solid build quality, high resolution wide screen, Rigol 3 year warranty, 4 channels in an unheard of price point, and long memory. For an entry level scope at this point, you get a lot for a little.
The only gripes I have are that the sample speed goes from 1CH - 1GSa/s, to 2CH - 500MSa/s, to 3/4CH - 250MSa/s, and that the probes could be a bit nicer.
Read over at the eevblog about the many posts regarding this scope.

For the value this is a nice scope. The measurement features are a little hard to get use to, but at least they exist. I have had all 4 channels up and measuring without issue. When you are use to a Tektronix scope it takes some use to working with different controls for selecting channels.

If you need a scope, this is probably it.
5.0
Echoing what others have said, this is a ridiculously capable scope for the price. Dave at EEVBlog has done extensive reviews, teardowns, debugging, etc, on this scope, and if you are considering purchasing then I recommend you search youtube for those. The verdict on the internet zeitgeist is that this is the best value for your money, by far, and I wholeheartedly agree. I love the thing. Especially if you take advantage of the software-unlockable upgrades.
Speaking of that, the DS1054Z has exactly the same hardware as this one, so you can save your money vs the DS1074Z or DS1104Z if you are willing to scour the corners of the internet for suitable hacks. This review is for the series as a whole.
Pros:
Pretty much everything you can expect from a 4-channel DSO. It can do math, FFT, digital protocol decoding and everything. I've had it for several months and haven't even scratched the surface of its capabilities.
Cons:
The UI has some idiosyncrasies which take getting used to, like the push-to-zoom feature, the measurement menu which makes it impossible to delete old measurements. Maybe a more expensive Agilent scope has a slightly more intuitive UI, but it's not a big deal.
The protocol decoding updates really slowly as you're zooming around, and only decodes what's on the screen, not what's in the memory buffer. If you want to do i2c/spi/rs232/etc protocol analysis, this will be a bit annoying to use, and a salae logic or something along those lines might work better. But for debugging simple line voltage/transient issues, a scope like this is essential and a logic analyzer will not help, and having it decode at least what's on the screen is of great value.

Excellent Value
5.0
This is a value-priced instrument with many features. I purchased this as a basic check-out product on a production line. For that, it works admirably.
The upside is the feature set.
The downsides are few but might be important to someone reading this review: The user interface lags considerably behind a function call. Unlike its unworthy competitors, it seems to prioritize measurement speed over GUI fluidity. It's not hard to get used to it, however, and I haven't had an issue of a single lock-up.
The second downside is the very small font used in virtually every text frame. It would have been nice to have an range of sizes available with larger sizes limiting the amount of information available to be displayed. As it is, I had to move the scope to a shelf about a foot closer than the original spot.
For the price, it's a competition killer. However, I don't think it represents the same value if one takes into account the annoyances listed above. If it were my money, I would spring for the next range of products.

The instrument is excellent. I was going to purchase a $400 unit but opted to spend the extra $165 for the additional features and the function generator. Learning curve was very quick. This is my first oscilloscope. I don't know how I got by without one in 40 years of maintenance repairs. Electronic copy of the manual is an excellent reference. Lot's of reference material on You Tube to assist you in setting up your repair lab. Only downside was with the shipment. UPS information did not get transmitted correctly and created some confusion. Small problem that was more of a UPS. Delayed receipt of instrument by a day. Excellent equipment.

Bought this as my first 'real' scope (pocket scope doesn't count). Decided to go with this model instead of the DS1054z because of how difficult it is to find it in stock. The biggest bang for your buck period
5.0
I had in mind this huge review highlighting all the things that I felt made this unit truly stand on its own.... But why? Look, at this price point, you would have to spend 3 times as much just to start to equal what you get in this unit. I do use it daily and now that I do.... it has become my go to scope. I do have another scope on the bench (Tek 2246) I have not turned it on since I put this on the bench...
As with all DSO scopes there will be some trade off from a true analog scope... You actually do not notice that trade off with the Rigol.
in short, I use it daily and am very happy with it.

Great scope for good price!
5.0
I needed a 4-channel oscilloscope with relatively good resolution for at home hobby use which would last me a long time (>2 years). After careful thought I decided on settling for this DS1074Z due to the overall quality and major community support out there for Rigol products. I must say I am very, very impressed with the features, layout, and feel of the scope. The designers did a fantastic job placing the menus and options for very quick and straight-forward navigation. The fast navigation ability applies to all features on the scope - except for adjusting vertical divisions per individual channel. You must select the channel and then adjust the vertical divisions knob individually for each channel. There may be a way of linking channels that I am unaware of and wasn't mentioned in the manual.
One very simple feature which I was very impressed with was the physical 'print' button on the scope, which saves a screen capture image (user-specified in settings) directly to the USB drive. Out of the few digital oscilloscopes I've used, this was the first to have this amazingly simple, yet very desirable feature!
My only real complaint about the DS1074Z is that when trying to clear or delete a measurement "slot" it will still remain on-screen and be grayed out with no value measured. This allows you to 'recover' it, but the grayed out measurement text is stuck on the screen no matter what you do. This is really only an aesthetic issue and, according to the manual, there doesn't seem to be any way around it unless you fill up the 5 measurement slots and try to add another which will replace the grayed out old measurements. This might be useful for wanting to recover a measurement deleted by accident, but with the quick navigation and selection this is an unnecessary feature. The software for PC connection is quite basic and doesn't accomplish much at all.
For beginners and experienced hobbyists alike, I would highly recommend this scope!

Bought this for general hobbyist work to replace a Tektronix 581A which was so big, bulky and hot it was very inconvenient to use. For basic things the DS1074Z is simple to use. Some of the menus take a little getting used to but it's not a bad learning curve. The software that comes with it is a bit confusing but seems to work. Wish they could make it a little more straightforward. 4 channels for this price is really good value. Unless you absolutely need more speed I don't think you can go wrong here.

I honestly have had no issues with it and love the four channels. It also includes a brightness level adjustment/intensity which I find useful for a scope being around $550.
If your willing to buy a decent scope for an average electronics work this would beat the DS1102 outright :)

Affordable scopes keep getting better
5.0
I recently sold my Rigol DS1052E after four years of service and was looking to get a 4-channel replacement. I had been eyeing up the DS4000 series, particularly the DS4024 since I wanted something with more bandwidth for long-term use. Plus, at the time it was Rigol's entry level into four channel scopes.
The thing that always irritated me before the DS1000Z series is that to get even an entry level scope with four channels, it was cheaper to buy two 2-channel scopes. Go figure, I think it's a way for the test equipment companies to recoup their development costs by sticking it to higher end buyers. I'm sure glad Rigol is trying to shatter this philosophy and drive the cost down on these instruments so the hobbyist can afford them. I would figure that as many of these scopes as they are selling, they must be making huge profits in volumes.
At any rate, in terms of the capabilities of this scope, it is no contest that it is far superior to the DS1052E that lead the hobbyist market just five years ago. There were two things that I had reservations on when buying this scope: the fact that it still has just 1GS/s (especially for four channels and is the same as the DS1052E), and that the channel control knobs are multiplexed. I was more concerned with the first one since the latter I've seen on even semi-expensive Tek scopes from about 10 years ago and I've used them at work without issue. Time has yet to tell whether I can see the difference with the limited sample rate, but so far it has worked quite well.
A little about me: I am a sort of jack of all trades. I do ASIC design, PCB design, mechanical CAD design, software, you name it (this is all wearing my professional hat). My specialty is in mixed-signal, so I really needed something more than the DS2000 series could offer me. I am also a hobbyist so I needed something that wouldn't break the bank. Plus, there is other equipment I need to buy so I can't afford to stick all of my eggs in one basket as oscilloscopes are just one tool I use in my home lab.
I have been doing more microcontroller stuff lately and I really needed something that could let me decode a SPI bus or look at a couple analog signals side-by-side with some digital sampling triggers. This scope certainly delivers in that domain and although it's only 70MHz, it suits my needs quite well.
Regarding my earlier comment on the DS4024: The reason why I didn't go with this scope is that it is still prohibitively expensive and also the practical side of me says I really don't need 200MHz. All of the analog work that I do is typically < 50MHz and the microcontrollers I use typically only clock up to about 48MHz. Furthermore, all of the RF work I do requires other equipment and having a time-domain measurement tool isn't necessary. In addition, oscilloscopes are the one piece of lab equipment that are analagous to computers (aside from bandwidth, which seems to keep scopes > 100MHz too expensive for some reason). The models from a few years ago are obsolete and the entry level scopes continue to gain the features of the higher-end scopes. So, with that said, I prefer to stay in that $500-$1000 range and keep upgrading every few years. This is probably the lowest total cost of ownership.

Great value for money-- some very minor quirks.
5.0
This is definitely a great value for the money-- its low cost was the deciding factor between a four and five star review.
The screen on the scope is a treat to work with; and there's a lot of good features to be had: the serial decoding, record/playback, large variety of triggers and large sample depth are wonderful for a scope in this price range. The waveform update rate is nice as well; especially coupled with the gradient intensity display.
The four channels work well-- though, as one might reasonably expect, adding each subsequent channel halves decreases the sample rate-- so don't expect to get the full 1 GSa/s on all four channels! The horizontal adjustment for all four channels are multiplexed through a single knob-- likely to make room for the larger screen-- which feels less nice than four discrete knobs; but I'd say the increased screen real estate is worth it.
There's at least one odd firmware bug (the scope stops responding if you turn all of the channels off), but none of them really have gotten in my way or irritated me when using the device.

Cons: Only 70Mhz, but you get what you pay for, loud fan, FFT is kinda useless adjusting the scale is limited for FFT
Overall its a great scope. Next in line will be a spectrum analyzer!

Solid scope
4.0
Quality build. I read a lot of reviews before selecting this scope and I was a little worried about the responsiveness of the display since this is a software-driven scope, but I'm happy to report that it responds quickly to all button and knob inputs. The decoding options and extra channels are very useful. The menu system is intuitive, although the menu strips on the left and right of the display do not disappear as with other more expensive Rigol models. The DS1074Z has more features than any other oscilloscope in this price range and it's built to last. Shipping was quick and my questions were answered promptly. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

Incredible Value
5.0
This scope provides awesome value for money. The screen is large, bright, and responsive. With 4 channels and optional serial decoding and triggering, it simply cannot be beat in its price range. I'm not a huge fan of the multiplexed vertical/horizontal position knobs, but I feel that the compromise is worth it for the size of the screen compared to the size of the overall scope.

Good with quirks
4.0
I purchased this scope to replace my Siglent, and must say, for 4 channels, the price is unbeatable. The extra deep standard 12 Mpts memory, 4 channels, 30k wfms, optional serial trigger decode make this a very powerful scope for one package. Rigol is not really known for excellent software, so some features such as Record are buried under layers of menus. The multiplexed control knob is probably the weakest point of this scope, and well, it really ticks me off sometimes.
