We use this camera as quality check and diagnosis tool in our electric motor shop. Resolution is good and very easy to use. I would not recommend it if one has to perform thermal imaging on a dayly basis, and a lot of equipments. However for less frequent checks like our case i would definetely recommend it.

The E4 feels very solid in the hand, like it is built well. I especially like the shutter that you can open or close to protect the lens. It is great for "seeing" in a whole new way, looking at the temperature of items. The MSX feature does a good job of showing lines in the thermal image so you know what you are looking at. The FLIR desktop software is also nice because you can analyze an image after you take it. My only gripe is that the resolution could be higher and that it is made for farther away focus. I wanted to focus on a closer up item like a PCB and found it can be done by getting an additional lens and a lens holder to position it in front of the main lens.

This device is a great starter level thermal imager, and at a great price for the features. right out of the box (after a charge) it working perfectly, no flaws, no updates. the iron, rainbow, and grey modes can be changed while still viewing what your looking at, which in my opinion is handy because some things are better seen in different color. its light, the case is spacious if you add accessories, and screen is clear. the range is great, I've tested it from 1ft to 100 (daytime for 100 ft), and the images were readable. at night or in total darkness, like a garage or attic or crawl space works great but you do loose detail because of the camera not seeing. add a flash light or work light and your golden.

I use this one for troubleshooting PCB mostly and I was only able to fix some PCBs because i had this thermal cam.. i think it makes all the difference to have a thermal IR camera for troubleshooting. This is not specifically for this, because the focus is not so close, but you can adjust it.... the bucks for the money i guess this is the best option.

Awesome device for an awesome price or not? The E4 shows you that they are just fine selling 6K devices for 1K, wow crazy margins! Now that the govt barriers are lowered and others are producing imagers I'll be looking for the HD 1920x1080 imager at walmart for $299 soon ;-D

Overall device is great!, case is overkill,tiny micro USB is hard to use, unit should have a SD slot or more onboard memory with full video recording, I'm sure the unit is up to that and would add little to the cost.

The E4 is an excellent entry-level thermal imaging camera. The resolution is pretty crappy at the stock 60x80 pixels, but you can still accomplish many things with it. We purchased an E40 for work and I must say that the E4 fits in the hand better, it is a more convenient form-factor for carrying around and performing inspections. The biggest downside to the E4 is that it does not have a tripod mount built in, but if you are creative you can overcome that shortcoming.

This is a great thermal imaging tool with excellent build quality and performance. The MSX really makes all the difference. Night and day. Decent battery life. On the negative side is the LCD protection screen that can be scratched even by cleaning it with a soft cloth! I think that FLIR should do something about that. Finally you should be careful with the USB cable because the protective cover pushes on the plug and might do some damage on the board that its mounted on. Gave it 4 stars for the sensitive LCD because this is supposed to be a industrial use instrument...

Apart from these two faults, you really cannot go wrong with this unit! Highly Recommended!
